Bleeding at 9 weeks pregnant

Hi, I am pregnant after multiple rounds of IVF. I had some brown bleeding at 5 weeks pregnant but all was fine in my 7 week scan, saw baby's heartbeat and he/she growing well. I had a small amount of watery dark red blood today at 8 weeks 6 days pregnant, which is now brownish discharge, not enough to fill a pantyliner but enough to scare me! I rang the EPU and they have booked me for a scan in 5 days time. Looking for reassurance - please let me know your stories :)

Hi, I didn't have exactly the same as you described, but i had spotting on and off from about 5 weeks to 10 weeks.

I am now 25 weeks and everything is fine.

I know it can be very stressful though.

Xxx

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply :) I went for a private scan today for reassurance and all was fine, just some bleeding from my cervix. Glad everything turned out fine with yours too and wish you the best for the rest of your pregnancy journey :)

You may get more responses on the Pregnancy Support forum so worth trying that, but it's very common in early pregnancy, especially IVF for some reason (so also search through some of the recent posts on here and there are a lot of reassuring and informative responses that may help you). It can be hormonal, from the changes your body's going through, the meds, irritation from pessaries or just unexplained. It can also be a sign of something wrong, but generally that's heavier bleeding, bright red etc. I had constant bleeding and spotting as soon as I came off the meds around 10 weeks, which only stopped when I went back on the pessaries. I had it investigated and turned out to be no risk to the pregnancy but I was told I could stay on the meds for the whole pregnancy. It's good that you're getting a scan. You could also get a private scan (isn't too expensive normally) if you are worried - that's what I've always done and they've been great, but you may need to do a little research to make sure they're proper qualified sonographers.

Thank you for your reply :) I caved and went for a private scan today and all was fine with baby, the bleeding is possibly coming from my cervix but shouldn't be an issue. Such a relief!

That's great news! Mine turned out to be from my cervix too and was fine. Hopefully you can breathe a bit easier now :)

Hi! I am sorry to hear about the bleed, they are super stressful! I had a large bleed at 5w due to a subchorionic haematoma. Was told to stop the baby aspirin and take it easy. It resolved itself by the 12 week scan. I hope everything goes well at the appointment!

Hi, I had spotting due to small subhorrionic hematoma almost from the beginning of my pregnancy up to around 20 weeks when it had resolved. My daughter is now 2 months!

Everything was absolutely fine :) I had a private reassurance scan as I couldn't wait for my scan at the EPU but both scans were fine. I continued with a bit of bleeding for the next few weeks which they think came from my cervix but is nothing to worry about. I am now 31 weeks pregnant. Wishing you all the best, try not to overthink (bleeding in early pregnancy can be completely normal) although I know it's easier said than done xx
