Hi folks, it's been a bit of a rollercoaster for my latest attempt amd id really love your advice.
I'd 8 follicles all the way through but just the 5 collected yesterday. It was supposed to be a freeze all cycle as my era results showed that I need to transfer on day 4 instead of 5 (obviously my clinic prefer to transfer day 5 blasts so I'd need to freeze for a future day 4 transfer)
3 fertilised today, 1 abnormal and 2 normal so we've got 2 embryos in the running on day 1.
Ordinarily I wouldn't question doing a 3 day transfer but my era results have complicated this.
Should I just transfer on day 3 (if I'm lucky enough to have one still developing) or should I push them to day 5 and see if I can freeze something with the intention to do my transfer later as per my era results.
I know of it reaches blast and I get to transfer at the appropriate time, I have a better shot. But I'm so worried about neither of them making it to Monday.
Thank you for your advice

Hi, I would suggest transferring both embryos at day 3 because you may not get both embryos surviving to day 4 or 5 (even if your era suggests day 4). Your uterus is the best environment for your embryos from day 3. You mentioned freeze-all, does that mean have you not started taking progesterone and estrogen? If not, ask your clinic to freeze at day 3 (tomorrow). You want 6-10 cells, 8 being the best.
I asked about day three transfers but my clinic believes if they don’t make it to day 5 they wouldn’t make it in any environment. I have seen research that backs this up. I didn’t get any blasts from two rounds despite very good fertilisation rates. I also have a history of missed miscarriages, the last two stopped at very early stages but my body doesn’t miscarry them so I found out at 12 weeks both times. I think probably if they’re not going to make it to blast in a dish you’d be much higher risk for miscarriage even if you got a positive. But it’s hard to know….
I've had two clinics and both were of this opinion too. They would wait until Day 5 even if only one embryo was in the running. It's partly personal preference in a way and what your clinics guidelines are / how flexible they are.
Thanks ladies. So I had a good chat with my Dr last night and he was explaining that a day 3 transfer would go against my era results. Basically my body is receptive to a day 5 blast on day 4. If I put one in on day 3, yes my body will be ready on day 4 but the embryo won't be a blast and ready to implant.
So it's a decision of ignoring my era results and putting them back on day 3 tomorrow or staying calm, holding my nerve and seeing if I can get one to day 5 so that we can run the era results properly in another cycle.
I think my veering towards holding my nerve. If I don't and they fail, I'll always kick myself for transferring them at the wrong time.
There's no right or wrong here. There's just which decision can I live with best. I think I would feel better about waiting to day 5. As yous say, if they don't make it, chances are they won't make it inside me either.
We're gonna see how they are today and tomorrow and make a final decision 🤪
My head hurts, treating myself to a stiff vodka later
