didn’t respond to Meriofert 300iu

So, I am 44 with only one remaining ovary and no fallopian tubes, due to endometriosis, 3 open myomectomy surgeries, two open hernia surgeries and one surgery to remove a blocked fallopian tube that turned out that it was fused with one of my ovaries and had to be removed. 4 of the above surgeries all happened over the course of two years not letting us to start IVF.

We finally got the green light this year on the 3rd of January 2024, we were given Meriofert 300iu and Ganarelix. I couldn’t wait for my period to start. It started on Sunday night 21st of January. So I was instructed to have an Ultrasound on my first day of the cycle to make sure there are no cysts on my remaining ovary. I got the all clear and I was super excited to start my first ever IVF cycle.

I started the Meriofert 300iu shots on Tuesday, 23rd of January 2024 morning at 8:30am every morning until Sunday, the 28th of January where my coordinator told me to start the Ganarelix shots and on Monday the 29th I was scheduled to see the doctor to do the ultrasound.

This morning I met the doctor and she started asking me about how and when I was taking my shots, she was shocked to hear that my coordinator told me to start taking the Ganarelix so early into my cycle and that she gained to mention that I had to continue taking the Meriofert 300iu for another 4 days.

As we all know it’s extremely important not to stop the shots, but I stoped due to my coordinator’s instructions. And due to her mistakes I already took two days of Ganarelix. The doctor was fuming and said let’s check whether your follicles grow and what size to.

She examined me and said that my ovary hasn’t responded to Meriofert 300iu at all and that I should today take a short of Meriofert 300iu and continue taking it without Ganarelix until Thursday morning when I am again booked in for an ultrasound.

I am sorry for the long winded story, I am feeling so so sad and disappointed and let down. Just wanted to see if anyone else had this sort of mix up and poor response and they were able to get some eggs at that same cycle?

thank you!

Hi Pandionok,Im sorry your going through this, the constant delays and hurdles, I know exactly what that feels like. My story is different to yours, I too just did a cycle using meriofert for the first time and I did not respond well. Which was quite a shock to me because I have always responded well to meds and have always produced a good amount of embryos/blastocysts and this time i nearly didnt have a transfer because the 2 remaining embryos I had where slow growing...... Im not sure but im guessing Meriofert may have to do with this result as I have never experienced this type of problem ever in all my experience (My many problems where elsewhere). So dont give up hope just yet,the first good thing is that you where finally cleared to start ivf after so many hurdles, and IF you dont respond well to this protocol it doesn't mean you wont respond well to a different one❤️. Im wishing you all the best of luck and that you get where you want to be quickly and smoothly ✨🍀🤞

UPDATE!

I had a second ultrasound yesterday, which showed that I grew 6 eggs. So those extra 4 days of Meriofert from Monday through to Thursday made all the difference! I am so so happy. I seems that my ovary was a late bloomer and the fact that the coordinator made a huge mistake by instructing me to start Ganarelix too early and she failed to tell me to continue using Meriofert which didn’t help with everything.

In an ideal situation I should have been using JUST Meriofert 300iu from my 2 day of the cycle until day 11 of my cycle and after the second ultrasound that confirmed that the follicles are the right size I was instructed to start Ganarelix from Thursday inclusively through to Saturday and on Saturday morning to do the Meriofert and Ganarelix in the morning between 8-9am and to add the trigger shots Gonasi inj 5000 and Diphereline 0.1x2 at 8:30pm.

I am over the moon as I am scheduled to have my egg retrieval on Monday, 5th of February 2024 at 8:30am👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I am so so excited that I will have some eggs to retrieve as until yesterday I had no clue whether I could produce any!

This is the first step and so the waiting game begins:))

We opted for ICSI as my husband is a body builder and his sperm is of poor quality (0.7million) we also chose to do genetic testing of the embryos, so we will have to wait for 5-6 days to see if these 6 eggs will fertilise and whether they will make it to day 5-6and from there onwards another 14 days to see if we get one or all good quality embryos:))

So I will keep updating my journey as I think this could help someone to keep the hopes and keep on going!
