Hi does anyone know if it is safe for pregnant women to pet or be around alpacas and llamas? Thanks

Similar risk to cattle and sheep. V low risk of exposure to infectious agents that may cause miscarriage, mainly through exposure to urine, animal birth fluids, and raw milk. But not zero so wash hands thoroughly after handling animals. Xx

Hi. I don’t know for sure, but probably the same warning as with any animal, don’t handle their excrement. Diane

NHS have lots of advice on this topic, I previously worked in Veterinary sector, caution is needed and especially around calving and lambing. Not only infection but they are a working animal by nature, kicks and bites etc
