Prepping for Round 2

Hello ladies! I’m planning to start a second IVF cycle in January (when I’ll turn age 40!) and feeling hopeful. First cycle was BFN with short protocol so we are trying long protocol this time with Nafarelin (Synarel) nasal spray and Menopur. Has anyone had luck with this combo?

Also we had the option of using Buserelin instead of Synarel for the down regulation part, which I’m debating. Less expensive but more injections! Has anyone had any experiences to consider either way? I don’t mind injections so much actually but want what’s most effective (and less miserable otherwise). Thank you so much and wishing you all luck!

we had the injections and had a chemical and two healthy pregnancies. I was 34 and 36. All the best!

I’ve had two cycles, one with Syneral and one with Buserelin. Had a much better response with Buserelin. I preferred the injections too, I never really trusted Syneral! Wishing you lots of luck x

Hi, I know this post is old but wondering how you got on?

I’m in very similar position to you, had BFN on short protocol in Feb and now getting ready to try long protocol on Naferlen and Menopur. I’m also 40.

Keen to know what your experience was like with this protocol and drug combo?

Hi there. The Naferelin ended up being fine for me, I never had any side effects with it.

With Menopur long protocol I had 10 days of stims, which was the same amount of time that I had for stims in the short protocol so not much difference there (just adding the 2 weeks of sprays beforehand).

With the long protocol I managed to get 4 eggs compared to 2 on the short protocol -still a low number overall but relatively better.

On short protocol my progesterone was too high on trigger day and had to freeze the resulting embryo. With the long protocol I could have a fresh transfer. Maybe the sprays kept everything calm for longer so my own hormones didn’t come through as much.

All in all I think the long protocol was better for me though both were BFN in the end. Wishing you best of luck in your cycle!! Hoping 40 will be our year! :)
