hi all, i hope you're going strong and keeping well in your journey xx
We have our FET booked for tomorrow early afternoon, I've been feeling a bit numb about it after the disappointment of our first fresh transfer, I'm sure it's a coping mechanism as I normally have a positive outlook on things. Anyway, I have started to get the jitters today, it's all getting very real, I have my blood test today and hopefully we'll get good news in the morning about the embryo thawing.
I'd love to read your positive stories to help my mindset and any lovely advise you have xx
- on a practical note, I feel silly asking this, but can I wax my legs a day before FET? haha I'm kicking myself as i know i left it too late, but don't want to risk anything.
Thank you all, sending you loads of hope and good luck your way!! I hope we are all getting closer to having our dream come true!!

Hi Hopewhite. Just wanted to wish you well for tomorrow, and hope your little embryo likes its new home. Keep yourself busy and just rest for short periods. Keep up with any prescribed medication and try and hold off from testing until the day recommended by your clinic. Avoid getting constipated, and don’t forget the pineapple core! It is believed to prevent clot formation and ensure an even blood flow. Good luck to both of you. Diane
It is usual to feel a bit more 'numb' about an FET. In a fresh cycle every day running up to your transfer is stressful, whereas in an FET you are just pottering about normal life with a few added drugs until the day of transfer. It is altogether easier and not so intimidating so just try to take the numb feeling as feeling relaxed and enjoy that.
I don't see why waxing your legs the day before would be an issue. It is just the usual no make-up, nail polish etc rules. I would crack on (Not that they will judge you if you don't!)
Hi Willowpark I hope you’re well and getting closer to your FET!
Thank you very much for your kind words they help as reassurance , what you say makes sense, luckily it hasn’t been a stressful process at all this time, aside from the odd headaches. I just got confused about the avoid scent advice so wondered whether the wax would fall into that category? Tbh honest I’m trying to remember what they told me last transfer as they didn’t mention anything on this topic for this one.
On the nail polish , does it mean I need to remove any ? I haven’t even thought about this and have some old one on my toes ?? 😂
I think the "no scents" means spray deodorant or perfume, because they contain particles and can contaminate the air in the sterile room apparently. The embryologist who phones the day before usually mentions that to me. I think you are fine to like have a shower in the morning and use shampoo and soap and stuff which you then wash off, just nothing which stays on as a cosmetic. (So no make up, hair serum etc). Thats my understanding anyway. It makes getting ready to go in the morning very easy! And yes unfortunately nail polish needs to be removed.... That is one thing they do check 🙂
Also, still sitting here spotting and waiting for my day one... It is due Friday/Saturday so looks like I might end up on time in the end! What a palaver!
Ahh all the best of luck ! Try to relax hopefully it will come very soon xx mine was supposed to come on the 11-12 and didn’t show up until the 15th whereas before I was right on the dot haha it’s definitely the unconscious stress playing up on this. Hopefully it will all go smoothly for you xx
At my clinic, the egg collections and transfers are in the same sterile procedure rooms which adjoin the lab, so the same rules apply to transfers and egg collections. It might be different elsewhere of course. It makes sense though as they are inserting a catheter thing through your cervix and moving between room and lab, so I think it needs to be a sterile room. It is different for scans which are on a different floor at my clinic in scanning rooms. I've worn make-up for scans without issue.
Same at my clinic it was for both, but special emphasis was made on scent etc for transfer day! Wishing you all the best of luck, when is your transfer ? How are you feeling xx
Oh! Ok - I will check with my embryologist when they call.
Thank you! Transfer on Friday! I’m a bit nervous as we’ve all been ill this week in our house, and my last FET I was really ill with a cough. Just keeping everything crossed 🤞🏻💕🤞🏻💕
Best of luck with yours too! How are you feeling? Did you decide to go for the leg wax? Xxx
Ah poor thing! As if this wasn’t enough on its own , I hope you manage to feel a bit better before the transfer xx wishing you all the best of luck , I hope this is your lucky time(and mine) !
I’m feeling a bit stressed tbh, perhaps I should have got time off but then I’d just be worrying about it all , we can’t win right? . I did wax , I’m going with ‘what’s meant for you won’t pass you by’ philosophy 😂 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Ah thank you very much for the reminder ! They did tell me all of this last time , they even advised us to do a proper shower before bed time and just do a wash in the morning , I’ll add varnish remover to my list . Our embryologist will phone on the morning to share result as transfer will be on the pm, I hope everything goes well , this adds another suspense moment to this !
I think I was just told to avoid strong scents, like perfume, but I can't actually remember them saying that for the FETs, just for egg collection. For the FETs I didn't do anything different (definitely wouldn't have thpught to remove nail varnish or make up, as they don't normally use an sedative) - it was super quick and I was working/on calls right up to and immediately after and just carried on as normal in the weeks after. They also usually show you on screen as the embryo is being implanted and I found it a really nice experience x
Funny how it is different in different places! The procedure is so much quicker but I have always been asked as soon as I arrive if I have removed all make up and nail polish and if I'm wearing any deodorant, before I'm even handed the gown and things to get changed into! Maybe because where I go some ladies are getting EC on the same day and place as transfers, so perhaps they just err on the side of caution...
ahh thanks for sharing this!, our clinic did mention the no scent with special emphasis for transfer day, I suppose each clinic does things slightly different, and to be honest I didn't query the logic, they just said something like some of the chemicals could be harmful to the embryo, and explained the risk is very low but they prefer to take no chances. Having said that I do wonder whether the doctor/nurses were also advised no soap, no shampoo, no deodorant etc?
I like your approach to the FET I did similar last time after fresh transfer, it was booked super late so i just finished work slightly earlier than normal, this time I'm not taking time off either, from memory it took 15 minutes, hopefully it will be similar!, hope you're doing well xx
