headache with meriofert/fostimon

hi all, my second day of stims and I woke up with a headache… on 450iu altogether. I’m terrified of ovarian hyper stimulation, how can I tell if that’s what this is?

Hi Coffeeone. This is a common side effect because the drugs work on the pituitary gland at the front of your head above your nose. Drink plenty of water. It’s safe to take paracetamol but no anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen. Hope you soon feel better. Diane

I've just recovered from ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome. Headaches were not one of my symptoms but my abdomen was very swollen and sore and I was nauseous. Usually OHHS doesn't kick in until after egg retrieval and usually it's only mild-moderate (mine was moderate) and isn't a huge cause for concern. When you go for your scan your consultant will be able to see how many follicles you have (a higher number puts you more at risk) and whether there's any fluid build-up that they should keep an eye on. Try not to worry. I have polycystic ovaries and am fairly young, so I was always at a higher risk, but, if you do develop it, it is manageable and your consultant will prescribe you medication, like blood thinners, if you need it, after the trigger shot.

I get headaches every time on stims (had 5 egg collections so far) and I have NEVER had OHSS it’s just a side effect of the hormones. It’s also very early for OHSS too and you have been on stims long or even triggered yet so try not to worry your clinic will monitor you closely with bloods too 🤗 good luck xx

Just wanted to say I was on 450iu and like you got headaches. Like Dianne said, it is fairly common, was on a lower dose first time and also got headaches. I did not get OHSS.

Drink plenty of water and paracetomol usually works.
