stopping Progynova and Cyclogest at 12 weeks

hi all,

I had a successful pregnancy test result in August after a FET at the end of July, and since then I have been taking Cyclogest and Progynova three times a day. I have been told by the clinic to stop them at 12 weeks but not how I should stop them, and the midwife doesn’t know. Should I stop altogether or gradually?

Also, when trying to find information I read that Progynova shouldn’t be used in pregnancy - now I know it’s prescribed to many IVF patients, but of course I got understandably a bit anxious. Any words of advice?

thanks so much in advance!

PS added a week later: thank you so much to all who responded. You are so kind and lovely and I am grateful for your help. Unfortunately our 12 week scan found no heartbeat, and I had a miscarriage yesterday. My heart’s broken and I won’t look at this post anymore because it hurts but I just wanted to thank you all so much. ❤️

Hey, I went from 2 Lubion and 2 cyclogest + evorel patches x2 and progynova x5 until 10 weeks then reduced to no patches and just cyclogest.

At 12 weeks I’ll have 1 cyclogest and 3 progynova.

At 14 I stop everything. This is the CRGH protocol- I hope it helps!

Hi lovely,

I stopped Lubion, Inhixa and Progynova cold turkey at 12 weeks - but was still taking cyclogest x 2 a day and prednisolone.

I dropped down to 1 cyclogest and prednisolone at 13 weeks and at 14 weeks stopped all meds.

xx

Hi Sleep_talker. My thoughts would be to stop any injectables, and wean off oral medication and pessaries slowly. You will be fine I’m sure, whichever way you do it, as your body will be increasing progesterone if needed. Good luck and I hope all goes as it should. Diane

I had the exact same problem! Clinic told me to stop cold Turkey but obviously that made me stressy so I’m 11 weeks now and slowly reducing medication. My midwife wouldn’t get involved becasue it was a private clinic. Not very helpful!

Hi, I’m just finishing this process at the moment, my clinic were very keen I finished my Progynova by 12 weeks at the latest, the placenta is delivering hormones by this time. They said estrogens cross the placenta and can affect the development of the baby if you keep taking it too long. Whenever you come off anything just reduce slowly, if you take 3 a day go down to 2 a day for a few days and then 1 a day and then stop. I was convinced I would miscarry when I reduced the medication because I had spotting and cramps from 6 weeks, but actually all that stopped by 12 weeks as I was reducing medicines and I feel so much better now I’m off them. I’m now 13 weeks. Good luck xx

hi, I was cyclogest and Lubion and stopped them both at 12 weeks scan. Clinic said just cold turkey as your body is doing all the heavy lifting at that point… which I did… and my baby was born safely and well.

Hi sleep_talker,

I'm probably at the similar stage to you (11 weeks) and was given a weaning off schedule for elleste solo (oestrogen) and Cyclogest. From week 10, I've reduced down to 2 tablets of elleste from 3, then week 11 down to 1 then stop at week 12. With the cyclogest pessaries I'll be going down to 1 pessary a day from week 11 then stop week 12. I'm on steroids too so weaning off them gradually over two weeks. But clexane injections I can stop at week 12.

Hope this helps! All the best x

Hi. Progynova is always used in medicated FET cycles until 12w. I would get your progesterone tested. I think progynova is fine to stop at 12w. I was always told to taper the cyclogest so take 3 cyclogest until 12w, then 2 cyclogest until 13 or 14w and then one cyclogest a day until w14 or 15. I would check with your clinic and progesterone levels.
