Hi all

Has anyone continued progesterone after 12 weeks of pregnancy, I am 9 weeks pregnant at the moment on 2 injections of lubion a day, 4 cyclogest and 6 tablets of progynova. Everything seems to be going okay and I’ve read the placenta will give the pregnancy what it needs but just nervous to leave the meds.

I was thinking about this too. I'm 8 weeks but when I had my 7 week scan the nurse said that some people wean themselves off the hormones after 12 weeks, even though by then the placenta has taken over and the clinic is happy for me to stop as soon as I get to 12 weeks. Psychologically it's a difficult thing to just stop them though, isn't it? I'm interested to see what anyone else says!

Thank you!! I’m glad I’m not in alone in my thoughts. Yes it is hard especially when you’ve been taken it for so long. I wonder if there is a way of checking that the placenta is healthy and you can have some confidence when you stop. Let’s see what the wise women in this group say.

Hi Swim. I qualified due to bleeding and a previous miscarriage to stay on progesterone (suppositories and injections) till 16 weeks. The clinic reassured me that I would be fine after the 16 weeks stopping them. I’m now nearly 34 weeks with everything baby wise perfect. Xx

Thank you Positive20 I’ve also had a previous miscarriage, I might check with my clinic. Wow you’re almost there, wishing you everything of the best with your bundle of joy!!

Thanks Swim. Yeah it was a decision the Dr had to make and they said you qualify with a miscarriage and spotting (I had spotting prior to when I should have tested but I already did an early one so knew I was pregnant). I worried even at 16 weeks and we told people later we were pregnant because we were so anxious but honestly everything has been perfect since I came off the meds. I’ve had a textbook pregnancy. Thanks for your well wishes! Good luck with everything! So worth everything we put ourselves through. It’s amazing at this stage when you feel strong movements from them! 😊 I’m appreciating every minute xx

Hey, congratulations on your pregnancy! I was on 2x cyclogest until 16 weeks. I was so anxious to come off them due to previous losses but my midwife reassured me that they had done all they could do for me at that point! It was weird not taking them after so long but all has been very good since. Good luck 🥰 xxx

is everyone here on progesterone to 12 weeks? My clinic stop you on test day! It’s nhs and then some people have asked to stay on and they’re charged!

My clinic says it’s fine to stop progesterone injections at test day but we still take suppositories until 12 weeks or beyond. It’s definitely something that given the option to continue I would - weird that they don’t include them on NHS there but luckily suppositories are really cheap if they’re happy to do you a prescription.

the hospital has a prescription after my FET to keep me on progesterone and estrogen if I get pregnant, but only for a little bit. I wonder would my doctor keep me on but then with FET you probably are on them til 12 weeks anyway?

I’ve never been on injections should I be concerned? I dont think my clinic does injections unless you have repeated implantation failure which is unfair as it seems they waste embryos on trial and error.

I think it depends on your situation as to how long progesterone is given to you for, but my dr told me that you will only absorb what you need so there is no harm in taking progesterone if you don't need it your body just won't absorb it but if you do then your body is getting it. So if you can get a private prescription I would do that.

Hi! I was told by my clinic to stop the progesterone at 12 weeks too. I had some spare from previous rounds so continued until 14 weeks and stopped then without any problems. Good luck!

I was really nervous about this too especially as I had a lot of bleeding so I starting reducing at 12 weeks for about a fortnight rather than going cold turkey but everything was absolutely fine and the placenta has probably taken over by now at 9 weeks anyways never mind 12 weeks so you are actually already getting an extra few weeks as a precaution is how it was explained to me by the clinic. Congratulations 🥳 on your pregnancy xxx

Hi! I stopped at 12 weeks and had a light bleed for 3 days. It was super scary, I called the clinic they said that it was probably from the withdrawal of meds but to have it checked. I went to EPU and they confirmed baby was ok. I am 21 weeks now ☺️ If you can maybe stay a bit longer to avoid any scary moments, but if you do stop and it happens, please don't panic like I did, just have it checked. All the best!! Xx

I slowly reduced, although was advised I could just go cold turkey. Did this twice with my boys x

I was on lubion injections twice a day and stopped completely at 12 weeks, no problems

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I did a modified natural FET, am currently 13w+3, the clinic recommended to stop both Lubion injections after 10w+0, I then reduced Cyclogest from 800mg to 400mg after 12+0 and will stop taking Cyclogest altogether after 14w+0. I cannot wait to stop the progesterone as it's making me feel very bloated, even just the one suppository a day. That said, though I have a history of recurrent loss, I never had any spotting or bleeding during my pregnancies so my protocol may not apply to you and your specific obstetric background. I would double-check with your consultant for peace of mind. Wishing you a smooth pregnancy! x

surely by t he time you’re at 3 months you’re already bloated from pregnancy. Do you mean to say that we will look pregnant from day 1

Hi Swim once the placenta kicks in you don't need to take progesterone anymore. I was on 2 lubion injections, 3 x pessarys a day and clexane blood thinner injections, my clinic to stop taking at 12 weeks but was super nervous and had some extra so I kept talking them until after my 12 week scan (almost 13 weeks) which confirmed that the placenta was doing its job and everything was ok so I just stopped cold turkey. Currently feeding my almost 4 month old 😊. If it makes you feel better you can wean yourself off your meds after 12 weeks. Good luck with the rest of you pregnancy x
