Does Cyclogest Affect Ovulation?

Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing OK.

During this cycle, I had been testing for ovulation from day 8 to day 16 of the cycle, but I got no positive results. I use Clearblue ovulation tests which I find accurate and I normally get a positive either on day 10 or 11 of the cycle. Today is day 19 of the cycle. Also, I haven't noticed any ovulation signs that I normally experience during those few days leading up to ovulation.

I have been seeing a reproductive immunologist who has prescribed Cyclogest pessaries to me together with other medicines incl Hydroxychloroquine for high levels of NK. I started Cyclogest in the previous cycle and Hydroxychloroquine one month before that as per doc's instructions. I never had an issue with ovulation before until I started Cyclogest last month. Amongst Cyclogest side effects from the leaflet: "Changes in your menstrual cycle", so not sure if this is happening due to this medicine?!

Has anyone had an issue with ovulation after using Cyclogest?

Is there anything that can be done to get ovulation back on track?

I will also contact my doc on Monday to see what he has to say about this.

I would like to hear your thoughts. Any input would be much appreciated as I really don't know what to do.

Apologies for the long post 🫣 xx

Hello! I take cyclogest in the Luteal phase for two weeks to up my progesterone then - I’m guessing that’s what you do to ? I’ve never had issues with ovulation the following cycle and I’m aware the half life of cyclogest is only a few days so it shouldn’t still be in your system. Maybe it’s the other meds? Or your body being wacky and unpredictable, which can be so frustrating! Good luck x

Thanks very much for your reply. As per my doc's instructions, I should take cyclogest for 10 days from ovulation day, then I take a pregnancy test. If the pregnancy test is negative, I should stop taking cyclogest and resume the following cycle the same way. The other meds I take are Hydroxychloroquine and aspirin which I started taking a few months before cyclogest and I didn't have ovulation issues with them. The only thing I added last month was cyclogest, but I obviously can't tell for sure if this is what's causing the issue!

Ah I see how confusing it is! I hate it when my body responds differently and unpredictably from one month to the next and of course I try and work out what I’ve done differently too. Sometimes the Drs have just put it down to our bodies not behaving. Hope you get some answers x

I did find Cyclogest, on a failed IVF cycle, delayed my period a few days on the following cycle but that was it. I assume you just took it for 2 weeks in your previous cycle? No chance you could be pregnant?! Xx

Hi Purpledoggy, many thanks for your input. In my previous cycle, I took cyclogest for 10 days as this is what my doc advised. Then right after that, I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. So I had to stop taking cyclogest and I was supposed to resume this cycle from ovulation day. I had my menstrual period in this cycle, but then no positive results for ovulation. So it's all confusing to me as to why this is happening. Will see what happens in the next cycle xx
