Cyclogest

Morning everyone. Hope you're all doing well. So I'm currently heading for transfer number 2. Started on cyclogest back entry (sorry) 2 days in but wanted to try it vaginally this time as on the last transfer I did it rear and got a negative result, not saying this was the reason, just wanting to see if it makes a difference. Would it be okay to switch or stick with what I'm doing?

Thanks x

Morning

I asked this exact question to my embryologist and she said there is no medical evidence to suggest that using either way results in greater chances of success. She said of course if there was any evidence then clinics would be recommending that as the only way which makes sense. With that in mind it wouldn’t make a difference if you swapped now. I still personally use them at the front because like you it just seems closer to where I needs it to go 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣. The only time I didn’t was the day of egg transfer when they ask you to do it at the back. I hope that helps 😁

This! This is literally my thinking in it 😅 Makes sense what your consultant says. When lying down after it have you got to be fully flat or can I have my head propped up to watch a film?

You don’t ‘have’ to lay down and definitely wouldn’t need to worry about propping your head up 😅

I’m on cyclogest 400mg x3 times a day so I do lay down for the one at 7am and then at 11pm and watch tv for half hour but the one at 3pm I’m at work so there’s no option to lay down! I must confess that one does result in a lot more loss of the coating (sorry tmi) and I do have to waddle back to my desk like I’ve wet myself 🙈🤣

Definitely 💯! Hopefully it will all be worth it for us! I’m actually almost at the end of my 2ww, OTD is this Friday 🫣

my consultant said it doesn’t matter whether you use it rectally or vaginal tbh. Absorption is similar. Just make sure that progesterone levels are adequate before ET and that you do not need extra supplementation either doubling the suppository dose or adding in IM progesterone.

Good luck !!!

I've never had my levels checked before hand. Is this something that's supposed to be done?

Hi

its not an absolute, but low progesterone on the day of transfer can affect implantation and endometrial receptivity. My clinic aims for a progesterone level above 30, some clinics in London like it to be over 50, maybe speak to your clinic for advice. All the best x

Between transfer day and testing day I switched from vaginal to rectal halfway through, because I got a Bartholin’s cyst that also got infected because of all the vaginal discharge you get from the pessaries. This was at my clinic’s advice. I still got a faint line positive on testing day, which I’m now double checking via a blood test with my clinic. I don’t think that it makes a difference, it’s probably just personal preference, but let me tell you it’s way cleaner overall via the back door, there’s no discharge to deal with 😆

Oh no, sorry to hear that happened, like the transfer itself isn't enough to deal with. Congratulations on your positive result, I really hope the blood test confirms this for you.

Exactly! The stimulation cycle, the transfer and then the 2 week wait are already enough to deal with lol

I won’t be as mad if the blood test comes back positive, but we’ll see.

Hope your second transfer goes well!
