Sorry for the TMI here! I had my ER yesterday and am hoping to do a fresh transfer on Monday (praying for our fertilised eggs 🙏). I started taking Cyclogest pessaries yesterday in preparation and just wanted to check whether it's normal to have some leakage afterwards. I'm hoping it is but my anxious mind is spiraling and wondering if it could mean the progesterone isn't being absorbed properly.
Anyone else have this experience?

Hey lovely! Yes, perfectly normal - sadly cyclogest pessaries are infamous for the "aftermath".
Taken either vaginally or rectally, you need to hold it for at least 30-45mins (some say 20mins, others say 1hr but this was what I was advised and had no problem) for the hormone to be absorbed. The rest is just a carrier/filler and can safely be dispelled.
When I was taking it vaginally I used panty liners. I switched to taking it rectally post-transfer as it was irritating my cervix and causing spotting - in this case the filler won't come out unless you relax your rectal muscle, so I found it less messy.
When you say hold it in, do you just mean like ensure the full thing doesn't pop out? Or as in are you supposed to lie down/ avoid moving for that period of time? (I don't think the clinic gave specific instructions but I was quite dazed from ER when she was giving the instructions tbh).
Ideally lie down & avoid moving too much, but that sometimes isn't feasible e.g. taking a dose at work - in such cases I just tried to be at least seated for the duration so it doesn't leak out if taken vaginally.
If you feel comfortable, holding it in is easier with a rectal route as your rectal muscle will naturally be shut tight unless you're emptying your bowel or passing gas.
I felt I had a lot of leakage, less so if I laid down for 30mins after. However my progesterone blood test on transfer day (frozen) was one of the highest the consultant had ever seen so I was clearly absorbing it pretty well! Try not to worry too much. It's not very nice to deal with but is only temporary. Wishing you all the best 😊
Completely normal. Just try to lie down 10 mins after to make sure it's in properly. There will always be a little leakage though and I get it when I go to the toilet and wipe sometimes. It's still doing it's just though don't worry.Good luck for your transfer. My egg collection was yesterday so not far away from you x
the only problem I found with rectally is it can cause gas in the bowel and this has obstructed my scan so I’m staying away from rectal now as I want a better view on the scan gas is the only thing that will interfere with rays even with an internal scan but leakage totally normal lying on your left side helps it to circulate correctly too I take my 6am go back to bed for 45mins, 2pm rectal and sit down for half hour 10pm go to bed 👍🏻
I used it rectally as it goes straight in and there is very little chance of leakage and you don’t have to lie down or anything afterwards. Straight in and carry on with your day… I got used to it after 4 months, 3 times a day. It is your choice completely but my clinic told me that it wouldn’t matter which way I used it. I believe some leakage when using vaginally is very normal. Good luck xx
