apparently they use midazolam and pethidin at the clinic I am going to. Did anyone get this combination and how did it feel?

Hi Vivibeatris. Midazolam is pretty good on its own, so with pethedine thrown into the mix you should be just fine. Good luck. Diane

Will I be awake? I don't want to be asleep that's my worry. Also, I have a condition called dynamic airway collapse which not sure how would interract with the sedation

HIi. You should be awake, just drowsy. Make sure they are awar of the syndrome.

You should get a review by the anaesthetist before you go for the procedure (mine was done just before). Make sure you tell them about your syndrome, but the anaesthetist will know what to do and they monitor you closely throughout. I honestly don't remember much about my retrieval, other than going into the room and then being in recovery. Think I was back in my room with my other half in about an hour (or just under). Good luck xx

So there wont be an anesthetist there only a nurse anesthetist. Should I ask for an actual anesthetist doctor? They said since this is not general anesthesia they just use a trained nurse instead

A nurse anaesthetist will be very experienced and will have had to lots of training etc to be able to do this sort of thing. Given your your history, it might be worth mentioning to your clinic before you go in for your retrieval, so if they need to get someone else in they have time to sort. Would hate for you to go for the retrieval and then it gets cancelled xx

Yeah I told them about this issue and they know but they dont think we need a doctor anesthetist as they say midazolam and pethidine are very light drugs... hm

They are very light....(.for a bit of context I'm a nurse and have used them for patients undergoing daycase procedures). Essentially you will be "woozy" may even doze off but you won't be in a deep enough sleep to lose control of your airway (which is what happens when you have a general anaesthetic hence the need for breathing tubes etc). It's just like if you have a snooze on the sofa!

Which opioid pain relief as pethidine is the opioid pain relief?

The sedation was probably the highlight of the whole egg collection cycle for me... enjoy the feeling!! Then the snoozy nap as you wake up, then they bring you biscuits and tea, lovely 🤣🤣

I have dynamic airway collapse so have to be more careful with sedation... that's why I am not too keen
