Hi everyone, I have my day 10 scan soon hopefully followed by egg collection. This is our first round of IVF so don’t know what to expect. What was your experience of the egg collection process?

Egg Collection
Hi there,
This is exciting and a big step in the IVF process. My experience of the egg collection procedure was very positive. You will likely be heavily sedated and therefore won't remember/feel a thing. I was a little uncomfortable afterwards, but they inserted a pain relieving suppository during the procedure which helped. I had a tiny bit of bleeding/spotting for the afternoon after collection and was fine afterwards. You will feel quite groggy afterwards, so a day on the couch with some comfort food is definitely called for.
Good luck
It's not the most pleasant thing to go through, but you will be sedated so basically go giddy and sleepy. I don't remember much after that! I was tired for the rest of the day but after that completely fine. Also it was a relief as I'd been getting so bloated through the stimulation that to have the eggs out felt much more comfortable! Good luck
I found egg collection quite difficult to be honest. I was given oral sedation and a strong IV painkiller for my first egg collection and I found it very painful. For my second collection, they also added in IV sedation which I needed the full dose of before it properly knocked me out. I don't want to scaremonger, I just want to be honest. My clinic doesn't have an anaesthetist, so that will make a difference in how much sedation they can give. I imagine that what I got for my first collection must be enough for most people, but for some reason not me!
Hi. I had my first IVF cycle in May, and my egg collection was absolutely fine. I was in the theatre, the anaesthetist said that she was going to sedate me - and then I don’t remember a single thing until I woke up in the recovery room. The hardest part was when I came-to, and was desperately waiting for a nurse to come in so that she could tell me how many eggs they had collected. I don’t really remember having much pain afterwards - was all fine. Wishing you the very best of luck. I’m in my second cycle now, and my egg collection is on Monday, all being well! 🤞
I've had two egg collections done the first one wasnt pleasant but went about as okay as it can go, it's never going to be an enjoyable experience! The second one I didn't react as well and was quite ill afterwards, I think it's because we did it back to back so must have just been a bit much for my body. My ovaries were still swollen on my ultrasounds four months later. But I'm pregnant now so won't complain!
Hello,
I was sedated for the egg collection itself so that was fine, remember feeling very drunk & then nothing at all until I came round afterwards. I felt no pain at that point but I did feel quite tender by the time I left. I had taken the day of & the day after off work but I found I needed a good 5-6 days to recover. I was quite sore in the tummy area which I hadn't expected. I only had 7 follicles so can't imagine if there had been more! Had to stay dosed up on paracetamol which isn't like me. I found waiting for the embryologist updates really stressful too so was glad in the end I'd taken the full week off work (EC on the Monday). It's all definitely manageable though, just lots of rest.
Good luck for the collection I was sedated for mine and woke up in the recovery room afterwards. I didn't remember anything about the procedure. I was in pain when I woke up, but two strong painkillers sorted it out within 20 mins. I def needed the rest of the day and the next day off work and someone to make me food . I think I fully recovered after 5/6 days. Some people seem to bounce back much faster so I hope that is the case for you!
Hi 👋 We are also waiting for egg collection, should be beginning of September, it’s our first time too. Good luck with everything!! Xx
