Low AMH cycle update: 8 day scan. Help! Advice anyone?

Hello lovely ladies. As promised an update on my cycle.

So today I went for my 8 day scan. Iv had 6 days of Bemfola 300.

My right ovary had one “tiny” follicle and one measuring 8mm. I wasn’t really bothered about that as last round I only had one follicle on my right that didn’t produce any eggs at collection.

The nurse then went to my left side and she said “I can’t see your ovary because your bowl is in the way” (sorry TMI) Then she said “or it might be your ovary with NO/very tiny follicles”..... WTF? She gave up scanning and put me in a room to wait for a doctor. Finally another nurse came in and said that she had quickly spoken to a doctor (my consultant wasn’t in today) and he said to increase my injection to 450. I said I didn’t want to do that as during my last cycle a doctor suggested upping my stims but then read my protocol (from my consultant) and saw it had to be strictly kept to 150. For everyone who has read my previous posts, that cycle resulted in my little boy. My left ovary (the one that couldn’t be scanned today) produced 2 eggs on my successful round. On my baseline scan about 6 weeks ago there were 4 follicles on it.

Iv requested a telephone appointment with my consultant in the morning and have booked another scan for Wednesday morning. I’m keeping to the 300 dose this evening.

Has anyone had any experience of being unable to be scanned because of their bowl being in the way? Or a complete disappearance of all follicles 🤷🏻‍♀️ ??

Love to you all xxxx

Nothing is ever straight forward , you poor pet! I hope you get Someone who talks sense soon. The only thing I had similar was my left ovary was behind my womb ( this freaked me out) but then by day of egg collection everything was accessible. I’m not sure that helps but hopefully they can reassure tomo 😘💐💐💐💐💐

Sending hugs 😘💖🙏🏻💐

Thanks so much RhinoCat. I just hope that it is just hiding with a couple of good follicles and not completely baron like the nurse suggested. Put me in a total spin at the thought. Best of luck for your 2ww 🤞🏻🤞🏻😘Xx

Hi there, I’m sorry it hasn’t been the result you hoped for. Are you constipated? Or do you suffer with IBS? As this is maybe why your bowel is in the way.

They obviously don’t have a proper view of that left ovary so don’t worry atm. See what your consultant says in the morning. Hopefully he is on wed for your scan? Xx

Thanks kitscat. Bless you. A couple of weeks ago I found out that I was almost anemic so my doctor put me on strong iron pills. A side effect of them is constipation so I guess that explains it 🤦🏻‍♀️ Iv had loads of scans and have never had this before. I would have been fine but when the nurse said she may be able to see my ovary but it had no follicles sent me into a melt down 😓 I had 4 only 6 weeks ago so I can’t believe they have just disappeared or be so tiny after 6 days of injections. Hoping that my consultant is more positive tomorrow and I have a better scan on Wednesday. Lots of love 😘Xx

Hi yes I’ve had a scan and they couldn’t see the ovary as the bowel was in the way. Nothing is fixed inside and organs do move around so it’s not uncommon. Your ovary is definitely still in there so I’m sure things will have moved around again by your next scan and it’ll all be fine. Bowels being in the way is more common is you have digestive health issues like IBS, but still happens without issues x

The organs are fixed, they don’t float around the abdomen. for example the uterus pivots on the cervix. But hollow organs like the bowel will inflate and deflate as part of the normal digestive health; when this occurs the ovaries can be squished out the way, but it’s temporary x

Don’t worry Countrymouse I’m sure you’ll be fine x

Thanks Nat. Fingers crossed it is just hiding and hasn’t just completely given up the ghost 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi, my clinic always have problems finding my left ovary. I have a titled uterus and they said it’s in behind it. I had a scan on Saturday and the doctor (not my one) couldn’t see the left ovary at all and asked me did I have it removed or was it damaged. That freaked me out!!! Today I went for another scan and my doctor could see it but the follicles were small. I think sometimes these doctors need to be careful what they say as I think anyone doing stimulation is on tender hooks and fragile during this time. Keep doing what your own doctor says as they know you better! Best of luck xx

Thank you for this Jrss1. I just had this very same conversation with my OH. It really surprised/shocked me the way the nurse handled things today. She obviously wasn’t sure what she could/couldn’t see so she shouldn’t have made such drastic statements without being certain. This is a time when women are at their most fragile and vulnerable especially at the moment as they can’t even have their partners with them. I think I will have to write my clinic a letter. Best of luck to you too 🤞🏻xx 💐

I totally agree. I was left really upset on Saturday and felt like there was no hope. My right ovary seems to be ok but we all want to get as many follicles as possible considering we have to do so much work to get to this point. I really hope it works out for you. Keeping everything crossed 🤞 xx

Thank you! Don’t worry too much about numbers. Remember I only had 3 follicles/2 eggs and now I have my little boy. I’m just hoping on Wednesday I can see 2 decent follicles on my elusive left ovary and il be over the moon with hope. Hope all goes well 🤞🏻🤞🏻💐Xx

Hello. Yes- constipation can cause an ovary not to appear on the scan as the bowel can obscure the view. I had a nurse press down VERY hard on my right abdomen once and it suddenly popped into sight in my screen. It disappeared when the pressing stop. It was sore but quite funny when I yelped with how hard she thumped down on my abdomen! She did apologise 🙈.

Prune juice is great for constipation!!

Hope all goes well on Monday x x

I am on day 11 of stims on 150 Menopur a day. At the start of treatment they could not see my left ovary/there was nothing there and then about half way through they checked and there was a 9mm follicle which yesterday was 15mm. The body is a weird and wonderful thing. I hope you get some good news tomorrow.xx

Thanks so much. That’s great news 🎉 fingers crossed for you!!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻xx

Hi love

I'm on Bemfola 300 too. My clinic didn't scan me last cycle till day 10 and then I had 8 follicles growing but none were they size they needed for collection so they gave me 3 more days of stims and then I was ready to go! Had 11 follicles and they collected 7 eggs.

No bowl mentioning for me but hope you get more growth over the coming days! X

Oh that’s great! Are you on 300 Bemfola again? Xx

in reply toCountrymouse56

I am indeed! They're trying icsi this time as we only got 1 egg fertilise last time round so they're hoping for more luck this way. Xx

Yes we had ICSI last time. They managed to fertilise both eggs and they both made it to 3dt. We will be having ICSI again if we are lucky enough to get that far. Hope your cycle goes smoothly 🤞🏻Xx
