Success stories with a day 5 2BB embryo or day 6 embryos please?

Hello All

I’m 10dp5dt and very sadly got a BFN this morning. It was a FET 2BB embryo.

Since our gorgeous son was born via IVF in 2019, we seem to have had really bad luck with the frosties that we had left (1 MC at 9 weeks, 1 BFN as the clinic transferred the embryo too late, 1 totally heartbreaking TFMR at 14 weeks, and now another BFN). These embryos were made and frozen when I was 30. We keep being told that we have a “very good chance” of having a much wanted 2nd child, yet for some reason it’s just not working out for us 💔.

We have 4 frosties left - 1 day 5 2BB embryo, and 3 x day 6 embryos. For several reasons, we do not wish to subject these embryos to PGT-A.

I just wondered if anyone has any success stories with these types of embryos please? Or whether I should maybe think about doing another egg collection before I get any older (I’m almost 36 now).

Many thanks for reading. These days are so tough x

Hi Rosebud. You’ve certainly had a dreadful run of bad luck with your transfers, of which I was so sorry to hear. The ones you have left will hopefully contain a healthy sibling for your wonderful son. The embryos you have left stand a good chance, and I’m sure others will support me in my thoughts. I shall be thinking of you and wish you all the best. Diane

not a 2BB, but we had success with a 3BB.

That’s reassuring to hear, thank you for replying! And huge congratulations, I hope it’s going well for you. Since posting, I’ve looked into embryo grading more (as it’s not normally something my clinic divulges) and it seems quite subjective/unreliable?! 🤔 it’s all such a minefield!

yes and the number at the front is just stage of development, so it may develop further when defrosted.

I’d say it depends on how much of a break you’re giving yourself between transfers. If the breaks are short then I would say transfer the embryos you’ve got first, but if you like to space them out then perhaps it would be better to do an egg collection now. Depends on what age you think you’ll be when you’re done with the transfers (notwithstanding that you could be successful with one of those embryos of course).

Doing an egg collection at 36 vs 37 won’t make a big difference. Starting from 38 things get a bit trickier xx

That’s really good advice, thank you so much! Sometimes it’s hard to rationalise and have perspective on days like today. All being well, we’re aiming to do another cycle in September so will judge it after that I think. Thank you again 💕

Hi Rosebud! I'm 23 weeks pregnant with a day 6 embryo. This was a double transfer of 2 day 6, 4ab embryos, and our little fighter stuck around 💪💪 don't lose hope!! All the best xx

Rosebud, sorry to hear of your luck so far, don’t give up hope though, sounds like you’ve got some good FET options still available. Appreciate your thought process re doing another egg retrieval before turning 38, perhaps a good idea to talk it through with your clinic and see what advice they can offer. I’m currently 11wks+3 pregnant with a FET day 6 embryo (our last one!) and will be turning 38 this month. I think it helped knowing that we weren’t ready to give up hope and that we were willing to go private if it didn’t work which took a little pressure off, we also celebrated this last little embryo transfer rather than going through the same motions as every other transfer and voila it stuck. Wishing you the best of luck for a future transfer/transfers! X

Thanks so much for replying! I feel so happy for you that your final embryo worked 💕 Do you mind if I ask whether you did PGT-A, or whether you just kept trying and hoping for the best?

I’m desperate to speak to my clinic but they didn’t return my call yesterday, and I can’t get an appointment with our consultant for 4 weeks! Awful really. This forum really is such a support at difficult times xx

My clinic didn’t offer any embryo checks other than usual embryo grading (little france - Edinburgh), so it wasn’t even an option for us. I did make use of the fertility counsellor who was amazing and can’t thank her enough, she gave some wonderful recommendations and insight as to what we could do/think differently to get through the disappointments time after time (mostly it’s about self care). Highly recommend counselling as we can get too stuck in our heads about everything that can go wrong which is absolutely understandable but at the end of the day each embryo is a new opportunity and generally speaking cannot be compared with any prior embryos (they are their own entity). Yep, it’s great getting tips and advice on here too. Hope you’re able to get a callback soon so you can be reassured xx

Yes, totally agree! I’ve had specialist counselling on and off over the years during this process, it’s been invaluable at times! You’ve reminded me to look at the next cycle as a fresh opportunity, and not to go into it with a negative mindset. Thank you 🙏🏻 xx

Yeah, it’s difficult, our minds play tricks with us, especially with hormones all over the place. Have everything crossed for your next cycle xxx

When you’re doing FET doesn’t really matter if is day 5 or 6, they will transfer in day 5. FET is good in that way that it gives slower embryos time to catch up and they don’t miss implantation period because of freezing and timing transfer later. I have few frozen day 6 embryos that are pga tested for future and I’m very confident that they will do great once we decide to use them 😅 and don’t stress about grades, that can change after thawing too. I’d definitely recommend pga testing because you dismiss embryos that wouldn’t lead to successful pregnancy but it’s more when you have over 5 (politics of my clinic). Anyhow, just be positive and good luck! 🙏🏻 I’m sure your rainbow baby is waiting for you 🤞🏻☺️
