I am undergoing IVF treatment since last 6 years. This one is my 7th egg retrieval and 9th transfer is sheduled .. in my last 4 attempts I had developed serious side effects from progesterone injection which includes high fever, lumps, inflammation at injection site, redness sudden decrease in weight. Is this happening with me only or it's normal with progesterone.
Please advise how to reduce its side effects as high grade fever in not gud for implantation and embryo.

Hi. I did have side effects but not exactly the same as yours or severe.
I always had exceptionally painful injection sites from the day after (muscular pain) so to combat that I use to sit on a small heated blanket all night straight after having my injection and days after if it was sore. I then one time had a red inflamed lump that developed, the hospital said draw round it, monitor and if it increases contact them again. It was fine and went down so didn’t need anything doing with it.
I would always warm up the progesterone in the glass container before injecting, I use to do this in my bra but with it being winter and the house so cold I just used to wrap it in my small heated blanket for a few minutes before injecting. Some people also swear by having a walk about having the injection which stops the muscles going sore but this didn’t work for me.
Hi sorry to hear you are having such a bad reaction. I had soreness/redness and lumps at injection site. I found warming the injection before using helped a little. Also I would use a mini ice pack at the injection site for a few mins before the injection. After injection i would rub the site for a few mins. I hope this helps. Take care.
sorry to hear it’s so painful - I’m sure you are doing this, but I use a antiseptic wipe to gently clean the injection site (circular motion), pitch a fold, located about two finger widths of the belly button and keep it folded when I insert the needle (smooth push) and inject slowly. When syringe empty, I pull out (smooth motion) and immediately use the same antiseptic wipe to gently hold over the site and then use small plaster to cover. Then walk 20 mins or so. I assume you are using the short needle for injection and cleaning the table before prepping the stuff ( I have a small plastic tray I wash and wipe down with wipe). I’m sure you are doing the above already but that’s what I do. If I have 2 injections to do I choose the same side for both and swap to the next side the next day. Best wishes
The injection is administered by sister.. I myself is not very courageous. I have not injected my self. But from next injection I will follow the instructions with walk.
you are welcome, also keep the medicine cool (it’s hot in the UK now). You want under 25 degrees c. My room is currently 24 degrees so now the medication is downstairs in a dark cupboard (I have a thermometer I keep with the medicine). If the medication is cloudy looking - check with the pharmacy. Also, I’m sure your sister knows wash hands but do not dry, just give a quick shake. Good luck 😉
