4bb blastocyst didnt survive thawing

Hi, was just wondering if anyone had anything similar happen to them? From our first cycle, we ended up with 2 blastocysts, one fresh one frozen. We were so lucky and fortunate that the fresh transfer resulted in my now 2 year old son - grade 4aa

As we had one blastocyst left -4bb- today was our transfer day for our FET round and just before I was due to go in for the transfer I received the phone call that our blastocyst didnt make it. Only 20% thawed which wasn't good enough to do a transfer.

Apparently 95% survive the thawing process so this has really caught me off guard. I keep focusing on the fact that atleast our first transfer worked but I also can't help but feel upset that our 2nd blastocyst didnt survive.

I'm mentally preparing myself to go for a 2nd cycle and start again but I'm now also scared that it we are lucky enough to get any to freeze, will they survive?!

I’m sorry for your loss, it’s truly heartbreaking and adds another layer of anxiety. Unfortunately we experienced this also, we lost a 5AB, it arrested during thawing. Our clinic said it’s a rare occurrence, they said it happens around 3 to 4 times per year out 1800 plus cycles. It worries me all the time ahead of transfer, I’ve since gone on to have 2 further transfers and no issue with thawing and my anxiety around thawing has lessened. I hate using the term “bad luck” but thats how it’s been described to me. I wish you well on your next steps

Hello, sorry to hear that. I had a blastocyst that did not survive. Lucky enough I had another they thawed instead. But I've only had that issue once out of 5 transfers. I think it's very uncommon and likely will not happen again x.
