I had my FET today. I was hoping to transfer two blastocysts. However, one didn't survive the thaw (a 4bc+, day 6) as it showed fragmentation and was degenerating.
The blastocyst I transferred was previously a 4bb (caremaps exb 2 2), however it wasn't fully expanded like before at transfer. Although the same quality, it is was smaller.
Please can you share your experiences of how far your blastocysts re-expand after the thaw and the outcome, whether good or bad please.
Hope everyone is doing well 🙏 x

For my second and third transfer the embryo hadnt fully expanded when it was transferred, one transfer worked (but MC at 5 weeks), the other transfer failed. they told me at the time there were no issues with it still expanding and that the main thing was the embryo looked good before they transferred. Sending you my thoughts for the 2WW xx
hi orange flowers I hope your transfer has gone very well xx . Not sure about expanding , we had our FET last Thursday ,they only mentioned something like only 95% of it survived the thaw ? Not sure if that meant expansion, they said not to worry too much about it so I didn’t ! , I think all going well the blastocyst will keep growing inside so perhaps that’s why they don’t worry much about it ? I’m sure someone else here will shed light with a more scientific explanation 🤣, in the meantime I just wanted to wish you all the best of luck xx
Hi, sorry to hear one Embryo didn't survive the thaw. I had a 'collasped' not fully expanded Embryo transferred last year (and infact the 'worst' graded Embryo we had transfered after several attempts) and I currently have a 3 month old daughter. The embryologist explained to use that the Embryo just needed extra time to re expand and being inside me was a safe home for it to do it.
I have everything crossed for you, but do reach out to your clinic if you need extra support.
I have had a full range of expansion transferred and had positives including ones from embryos not fully expanded and negatives from fully expanded ones. As long as it has expanded some and is continuing to is the main thing my embryologist has said. My son was fully expanded embryo and had then started hatching before transfer but it was a bit later in the afternoon from other transfers I’ve had so I wonder whether it is literally just about the time and another hour or so and it would have been fully expanded. I’m sure that’s what’s happened for you but now it’s expanded back where it belongs ☺️ good luck xx
A couple of weeks ago I had a 4aa embryo transfer that had expanded 80%, but like someone else said they weren’t worried about that and the embryologist said he was happy with it. In saying that, the cycle failed 🥲 but I’m sure there are so many more things that go into than how expanded it was.
All the best for your two week wait, hope you get some good news at the end of it xx
I hope you’re looking after yourself. I’m sorry you lost an embryo through the thaw. This happened to us too and we were shocked as survival rate is very high, typically. It was our best graded embryo too.
Our understanding is that 50% re-expansion is the threshold for transfer so yours must have met this threshold to be transferred 🥰
We were also reassured that the grade prior to freezing is still used as an indication of success. Stay hopeful and good luck for the 2WW.
When I posted about this same experience at the time, it appeared not all women are aware of these numbers. I’m not sure it’s useful to know! Try not to fixate on them. I did but it was no use.
