Late fertilisation resulted in discarded embryos

Hello,

Background

First round 4 eggs collected, all mature, no fertilisation with conventional IVF.

Current round

Currently in the TWW on my second round of IVF this time with ICSI. Was told 11 follicles collected, 8 immature (couldn’t use), 2 (showed signs of maturity on day 2 so they injected that day).

1 (successfully fertilised and showed normal signs of cell division) so that was booked for a transfer on day 3 . Currently 5dp3dt.

None frozen

The 2 injected on day 2 didn’t survive but on the day of transfer the embryologist told me that 6 of the 8 they said were immature are now showing signs of fertilisation (called it late fertilisation). They called two days later and said all 6 made it to blastocysts (with 2 even hatching, which is uncommon and a surprise to them). Unfortunately my clinic doesn’t do PGT testing and they missed fertilisation due to not using a time-lapse incubator, so I cannot use or freeze any of these embryos! However they feel hopeful for the one they transferred as it was good quality.

After transfer

The first 3 days after transfer I had a dull ache and mild cramping and was very fatigued. Currently taking prenatal vitamin, cyclogest and estradiol I assume this is the cause of my soft regular stools but not sure. Now 5dpt and don’t really feel any other symptoms just extra gassy. I tested today (I really shouldn’t have) and now feel defeated.

Has anyone had success with a day 3 transfer and only 1 embryo.?

hi, I’m sorry it’s been such a rollercoaster, just wanted to say it’s very possible with one embryo. My clinic only does day 5 transfers (not sure why) but I had only one embryo after a pretty rubbish collection of 3 eggs from 7 follicles 🤷🏻‍♀️ but that little surviving embryo became my now 18 month old LB 🥰 keep going, sending you all the luck 🍀🍀

Hi Novbby. It didn’t happen to me but I do know someone who only had one viable egg that was put back after 3 days but the quality was very poor. That ended in a successful pregnancy so keep your hopes up. Good luck! Xx
