Wondered if anyone had been in a similar position or heard of this happening?
So on day 1 after egg collection we were told 5 eggs collected=2 embryos. However the unfertilised 3 have been kept at the clinic. We then get a call today day 3 to inform us we still have the 2 embryos π and are high quality. At the end of the call the embryologist informed us that she looked at the other 3 which hadnt fertilised on day 1 and to her surprise 2 have fertilised and are 4 cell embryos π―π― she said they may not develop any further. But we may have 4 embryos on day 5!!!
Whats the chances that these 2 'extras' will make it to day 5?!

We had a similar thing, so 10 collected on Wednesday, call on Thursday to say only 1 fertilised and they wanted to do 3 day transfer.
I called yesterday to get an update to prepare myself for today and they said the original embryo was really good quality and will be going ahead for transfer Saturday (today) and then mentioned 3 others have now started to slowly fertilise.
When we arrived today the 1 was still doing really well and we had it transferred, 1 had completely fragmented so no good, the other hadnβt really progressed and one has progressed to 7 cells, so they will leave it until Monday/Tuesday and update us.
Transfer went really well, no hiccups at all. I think the main thing is just to be as chilled as you possibly can, we had a Chinese the night before and binged watched Netflix. And then in the morning we played spa music throughout the house and in the car on the way there. I really zoned out while I was having the transfer done, I was just talking to my body in my head π the actually process was fine, very similar to a smear test, just a little uncomfortable, you have done the hardest part with egg collection.
Yeah they will update us on Monday or Tuesday and if itβs developed they will freeze but to be honest Iβm not concentrating on that one for now, the embryologist was very keen to remind us that IVF is not a numbers game.
The whole process is such a rollercoaster isnβt it! So many mile stones that your building up to, but I do believe that fate is already decided and we have to just relax and trust our bodies now xx
Yes this can happen with regular IVF. Not ICSi. In regular IVF the immature smaller eggs have a chance to continue growing in the medium and take to sperm. My doc told me this is why they often prefer regular to ICSi if sperm is normal. Awesome news.
We used icsi as its standard for donor sperm. Theyll call us in the morning before the transfer to update us, we will be grateful and over the moon if we still have the 2 original embryos xx
