3 cycles of egg collection before any transfers

Hi all

My doctor has recommended 3 cycles of egg collections due to my low AMH 4.2 inorder to maximise the number of eggs I can freeze before the numbers go down further. I am new to IVF and it seems very daunting to go through 3 lots of stimulation fairly quickly before any transfers. Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks so much

hello,

My AMH is 3 and I haven’t ever been recommended 3 cycles of just egg collections. Is your sperm supply limited? I have just had three egg collections back to back but that is because I didn’t not make any embryos viable to transfer. It is a huge tole doing that many. I would be taking round by round. Your first round you could make some good embryos and then you can transfer one straight away that month.

thanks for sharing, it’s a difficult decision as it seems very intense. I may just see how the first stimulation goes and take it step by step.

Hi Sabrina,

I was in your position and had two rounds of stimulation before my first transfer. This was due to diminished ovarian reserve at 30. I was hesitant at the time, but I’m so thankful that I did it. I knew that ideally I wanted 2-3 children and I’ve just received my second positive out of two transfers. It’s reassuring to know that I have some in the freezer for next time if necessary, and I’m far less worried about what my AMH is now that I have aged a few years.

If you definitely only want one child then I guess batching doesn’t matter.

Good luck!

Hi Sabrina, I’m on a 3 cycle package. I have had 2 collections already and waiting for the final one. They collected 7 then 10 eggs so have told me I need to wait for a natural period in between each cycle to allow my ovaries to settle. I’ve been on mild stimulation and with the breaks in between have found it ok so far. Happy to share any further details. X

hi, thanks for sharing. They have said I need high stimulation but it’s good to know you about the natural break

I had low AMH back in 2020 (4.5 at 35 years) when I started my first and only NHS round. When my fresh transfer didn't work they recommended a 3 cycle package to bank embryos. I only ever had 2-4 follicles on scans so this made sense to me. I knew I wanted ideally 2 children and that if I didn't bank embryos then my AMH may have dropped significantly by the time I had given birth to my first and was ready to go again. It was also good for my mental health to know I had 3 rounds to go through and not put all the pressure on one round. In the end it all worked out differently but the initial plan was to bank over 3 cycles and I think this was a good plan for low AMH. xx

thank you, it’s reassuring to know others had a similar plan with low AMH

Hi,

While my AMH was not that low, a 3 cycle package was recommended to me by my clinic due to my age. I was 43 at the time with relatively low egg quality.

I did 3 cycles back to back with one month’s break in between. each cycle.

It was the best thing I ever did as even when my second round was a disaster, I had two embryos from my first round which helped me cope with the disappointment. I had a fresh transfer after my third egg collection and got pregnant with my one year old daughter.

All the best with your decision.

thank you, really glad it worked out. I have been recommended high stimulation - how did you find taking the medication 3 times?

I was also on high stims 475 ius in total I believe and was absolutely fine for the most part. Before my back to back cycles, I’d had a failed cycle so I knew what to expect. At one point, I was taking 3 injections a night! Like you I wondered how it would be possible but it was nothing to worry about in the end. You just get into a routine and get on with it.

My clinic kept a close eye on me and were able to tell me pretty quickly when to trigger. I used the break between each egg collection cycle to get back to exercising and doing the things I loved doing.

You will be fine and if things get bumpy just remind yourself why you are doing it in the first place. For me it helped me to know that I was doing everything I possibly could to have my miracle baby 🌈
