Brown discharge at 5weeks 4days

Hi all

I had a positive test 9dp5dt and a good beta hcg of 954 at 13dp5dt but today for the first time this morning I’ve had a bit of brown/red spotting which has terrified me! I keep going to the loo to check and it doesn’t seem to be getting heavier but looking for some advice on here if people have experienced it and what the outcome was? So far my only pregnancy symptoms have been sore boobs and a bit more tired. I don’t think I’ve had any cramping or anything but you know you start to second guess everything! My clinic have advised I add an extra cyclogest in for a couple of days (I’m on 2 per day) but said it’s too early to scan me.

Hi Purple Panda, congrats on your BFP!

I had exactly the same thing at 5weeks on my first BFP, I was totally freaked out, I was scared to go to the toilet.

My clinic did manage to scan me at 5w5d as they said the HCG levels were high enough and I saw a healthy heartbeat 💕

I had brown/red discharge on and off for a couple of weeks but it was nothing to worry about and I have a healthy little boy now 💕

So I know it’s totally scary but it could be from implantation. I think they say generally brown blood is old.

Thinking positive thoughts for you🤞🏻💕🤞🏻💕 xxx

thank you, this gives me hope!! Fingers crossed I’ve had no more brown/pink since yesterday morning but I’m obsessively checking and going to the toilet way more than is probably healthy! I’ve reverted to popping my cyclogest in rectally as I wonder if I had irritated the front way (sorry for tmi!).

I wish I could have an earlier scan but they won’t do it til I’m about 7+4 which just feels like forever away. My early hCG was good so just keeping everything crossed we’re hanging on in there.

Congratulations on your little boy and thank you for taking the time to reply ❤️😘 xxx

I used a private clinic to do an early scan at 5weeks due to earlier losses. My HCG was really high and they were able to see heartbeat but they warned me strongly in advance that it was very early and they may not be able to see anything. I was also on masses of progesterone as that seemed to keep the spotting at bay. I think early on most of the symptoms are from the meds but it was long before the morning sickness kicked in and I definitely couldn't second guess that!

Thanks for your reply. When did the morning sickness arrive if you don’t mind me asking. It all doesn’t feel real at the moment as I have so few symptoms xxx

Probably from around 6 weeks (and then it lasted up to my third trimester...) But I have friends and family members who never got morning sickness at all, and one mother of five(!) said she didn't get a single symptom with any of hers and used to forget she was pregnant. I think it can vary so much between women and even between pregnancies. I know how anxious you must be though and I was the same - I had extra scans as I found they were the only thing that kept me sane, especially as the morning sickness came and went, and then I had spotting/bleeding throughout so I just needed the reassurance.

Yes it’s just all so weird isn’t it. You can drive yourself crazy second guessing everything. I’m hoping I might get an earlier scan otherwise I just have to wait and see. X

to update - I had more brown/pink spotting yesterday so I’m fearing the worst. It stops very quickly but I’m just losing faith here. Waiting another week and a half for a scan feels like torture.
