ivf better than icsi for some people?

hi all—would love to hear of anyone who has had better fertilisation results with ivf than icsi. I had my first round late last year and had complete fertilisation failure of 4 mature eggs. The lab and specialist haven’t found anything conclusive but have suggested we use ivf for the next round simply as it’s less invasive (there we no signs I had fragile eggs etc). I’m petrified of complete failure again and what that might indicate, so keen to hear if anyone has had success with ivf instead of icci? Otherwise it seems potentially futile. Thanks in advance 🧡💚♥️

No results yet but we’re having to use icsi due to my husbands low morphology rate. Do you have any sperm issues as it’s usually only recommended for those that do? Otherwise standard ivf may be better for fertilisation.

thanks for your reply. No sperm issues identified. They used icsi simply due to low egg number for us in last round and assumed it would more likely guarantee fertilisation with a small number I’m guessing. If we’d had enough eggs they’d have done a split cycle to help with identifying any reasons for unexplained infertility.

We were meant to do IVF as we were unexplained and then on the day of collection there was a one off sperm quality issue - never happened before or since so just awful timing. We were advised to do ICSI but unfortunately less than half fertilised and only 2 out of 9 got to blast. Next round we did ICSI again just in case and that time all fertilised and went to blast, so for us at least ICSI didn't do any harm but equally it didn't seem to be able to overcome the issue (probably sperm) we had first time around. We're doing another round soon for banking, and being offered an IVF/ICSI split if we get enough eggs and the sperm's ok, but just based on the last round I don't want to temp date and am thinking we may opt for ICSI.

I had very low fertilisation rates even with ICSI I know some women who have done half and half so just ICSI some eggs but they did have good egg numbers. I changed protocol and that increased fertilisation for me
