PCOS- Blood test between day 2-5 of cycle

Hi I went for a blood test a few weeks ago. I today called the hospital re the results and I am due to receive a call on Tuesday to advise me of the same.

Can anyone tell me what this is likely to show, I have been doing ovulation tests following my period and they are positive.

I want to know if an egg is being released... will this only be shown by an ultrasound?

Thanks x

The blood tests will likely show your baseline of fsh and lh which in some women can be elevated (mine never were and I have pcos).

I had a blood test on day 21 of my cycle to check progesterone which can indicate ovulation too.

On an ultrasound they can definitely see if you have ovulated (or had a go at ovulating as with pcos some follicles are empty)by showing a large empty lead follicle. I had one a while back and they could see a large follicle that was likely the one I had ovulated from and lots of others that were small.

Hi Sophieex. "Kittykat" has prestty well covered this. You could ask for a Day 21 progesterone blood test to check for ovulation. The result should read >30 to be positive for ovulation. Diane

What kind of tests they have done?

if you did LH test, and it’s peaked then shows you were ready to ovulate although its normally later in the cycle just 24-48 hours before Ovulation.

So when I went for my ivf cycles monitoring it was always LH check on blood that showed how close I was to ovulation I guess.

For PCOS there might b another factor normally in a higher range and that’s insulin resistance. If it’s on the higher side means your body produces too much of insulin which causes interruption in Ovulation. There is an interesting and complex relationship between insulin and Ovaries function. If you search PCOS supplements there are a lot in the market like combinations of Myo inositol, or even a pill called Berberine. I took them for the last two years before ivf despite not having an official diagnosis of PCOS but my insulin resistance was close to upper range and this doc was the first one after 3 yrs of ivf in other clinics to order this test for me.

It helps if you take Myo inositol and/or go on intermittent fasting but talk to your dr about it. Both help with egg quality very much but decrease DHEA as well so in a month or two the AFC count comes down.

I hope things go well for you. Good luck
