A Dr abroad is recommending a hysteroscopy with treatment done at the same time for anything they find, saying that the internal scans I had done in my UK clinic can sometimes not show enough. But my UK Dr has said it's not needed. I can go straight into my first round of IVF. Hence a little confused and reading posts for research. It's so hard to know what to do. What has been your experience?

UK research seems to say there's not enough research...I'm wondering if it's just not a UK-centric thing. No idea. Obviously I just want a baby But also don't want to harm myself in the process. or waste money.

There's a certain clinic I'm aware of abroad that makes its money by upselling add ones such as hysteroscopies, which are the same price as in the UK. They insist all women have one by default, whilst other clinics don't seem to recommend it. In this case, it may not be needed.

I had a "tiny" polyp removed and that was detected on routine scan.

Maybe get a second opinion. Good luck whatever you decide xx

Interesting! Yep. Getting a second and third opinion...seems simple now. Before I was trying to work it out on my own! I think paying for the consultations with others is worth it pre the ££££ for the actual cycles. Stress can pay a huge factor and I think trusting my clinic's advice will help ease stress, ofc! All the best to you too x

My UK consultant says that the modern internal scanning machines (good old Wanda!) are good enough to see pretty much anything apart from possible scarring. I’m sorry to hear about your loss, did you have a d&c? The reason I ask is they can cause scarring hence the possible need for a hysteroscopy. If not then I would say it’s not necessary. I’m afraid the most likely reason for IVF failure/miscarriage at 40+ is poor egg quality. Wishing you luck in your journey 🍀

Thanks. No, D&C wasn't needed. Completed miscarriage naturally. I think post a fertility webinar this evening and asking the question I'm going to park this and focus on if I'll stick with my UK clinic or wait another month and go with another (admin errrors rife have placed some doubt in my mind but hearing that admin in this industry is normal 🥴) Wishing you all the best too x

Hi JenniferLondon. A hysteroscopy is often recommended following miscarriages. At least they get a good map of your womb and a biopsy of the lining for analysis. Good luck with whatever is decided. Diane

I was reccomended one by a certain clinic abroad despite my aqua scan in the uk coming back clear after miscarriage. I didn't do it with them out of principle. I have had it done a year later just to eliminate some other concerns brough on by uet another dr abroad and it came back clear. If you have any concerns I would suggest having aqua scam done first. It picks up scarring to the womb as well as everything else
