Hi Ladies, I am really struggling today. I am 28 and have been ttc for 2 years now. It is deemed unexplained. Just finished my first IVF ICSI NHS round. 14 eggs retrived, 11 mature, 9 fertilised, 2 x 5 day embryos. 5AA was used for fresh transfer (was told this is the best grade so was very hopeful) 5AB embryo was frozen. Tomorrow is OTD but I tested today as I have work tomorrow and would be horrible to see a negative and go to work so thought its best I test today. It is negative. I am now wondering what the possible causes of this could be? and what questions to ask at my follow up appointment? I am devasted. I would love to hear similar stories/success stories for unexplained infertility. My AMH is 22, I have read some content about immune issues that could reject embryos, should I be concerned about that at this stage and discuss in my follow up? I would be grateful if you could write what made your second transfer or more a success? Thank you ladies x really hard day for me today

Hi. Sorry to see you have had a negative result. It is disappointing and upsetting. However there are many things in your favour. You have good AMH and age is most definitely on your side. It is common for IVF to fail on the first attempt, and even the second attempt. Unfortunately most of us enter in to IVF expecting it and desperately wanting it to work first time but as I'm sure you may have heard people said, the first go can be viewed almost as experimental to evaluate how your body reacts etc. Managing our own expectations can be the kindest thing we can do for ourselves. I would ask at your debrief what they think caused it to not be successful and what can be changed next time. Make sure you have had your TSH / thyroid bloods done I'm advance to any transfers. Must be below 2.5. Was there any bleeding before test day? If so id be asking about progesterone testing too X
Hi, your experience reminds me a bit of mine. I was 30 with egg collection but we had male factor issues. My fresh which was 5 1:1 best quality was BFN. 2nd transfer which was 5 1:1 early miscarriage but my 3rd transfer 5 2:2 is my 9 month old son. The quality doesn't always mean success, our 'lesser quality' one is my beautiful son. I really hope next transfer is the one for you x
Hi. Really sorry to hear your first cycle failed. Just a thought and others will know much more but has your partner had thorough semen testing eg dna fragmentation? Standard semen testing doesn’t look into this. There is always a drop off from fertilised eggs but sperm health plays a big part in this.
Came across this that might be worth listening to:
I’m so sorry to hear about your failed cycle. To offer some reassurance it could (and likely is) just bad luck both my 5AAs failed too - one I miscarried the other a BFN but my two beautiful sons were a 5AB and a 4CA so grading isn’t everything!
Given your retrieval numbers are looking good what jumped out at me was ICSI and that you went from 9 fertilised to 2. How were your embryos looking at Day 3? Ours were always really high quality and all still going and we’d lose them in high numbers by Day 5 which suggests a sperm issue not an egg issue. It may be you could look more closely at what’s going on on his side xx
