Bleeding 10 days after IUI - opinion needed

Hi, this is my first IUI or fertility treatment of any type. I have contacted my clinic but found their response a bit dismissive.

I'm on CD24 of my cycle (period is between CD26-30) and my IUI was on CD 14 so assuming my ovulation would be CD 14 or 15.

Yesterday I had intense back pain, knee pain and headache which is not normal for me so called them to ask if I could use a wheat bag on back and ibuprofen on knees and the nurse advised this could be linked to implantation.

Today I woke up minor spotting when I wiped, have been to bathroom since with no spotting but on the last occasion I went there was more blood and of a period consistency so I called to discuss this.

The nurse I spoke to advised they would treat this as my period, asked me to take a pregnancy test tomorrow and if is is negative they will register tomorrow as day one of my cycle.

A few things about this confuse me, if it is a period then surely today would be day 1? Also if implantation was possibly only occuring yesterday would a pregnancy test should as positive tomorrow? I do have an FRER that I can take. When I asked if it was worth waiting till my OTD she advised no because if I need scans they would be out.

I'm not due to have scans for my IUI but my clinic have recently increased their IUI price and they description now says "monitoring scans" so obviously I will want them if I'm paying for them.

I'm someone who like to know all possible outcomes so asked if the bleeding stops do I still test tomorrow and if negative they still treat it as a period and start of a new cycle? To which she said yes.

If the test tomorrow ones back positive she said I have to wait till 7 weeks for a scan.

Do these things sound in line with what others had experienced?

I have had lots of issues unfortunately with my clinic and find them insensitive but haven't looked to move as don't want the delay or extra costs.

Sorry you are having a difficult time with your clinic - have you thought about raising your concerns with their manager? Sending you and big hug

Hi, thank you for your reply. Yes I have raised it with a feedback person as been misadvised on a few occasions. It was recently changed from NHS who supported self funding patients to a private service so just seems to be run differently and less patient support and care. I have 2 vials left with them so will see what happens after that. X

hi is it a natural IUI you are doing or are you on any meds? I found that I did get my period before test day with natural IUI as I think they give a test day past day 1 of cycle so that it gives a level of certainty of the result. If the test is negative then it’s likely it is your period I’m afraid 😢😢 but if not then a scan at this stage wouldn’t see anything as it’s too early but they could do repeat bloods to see what’s happening with HCG levels. Tbh though it sounds like your clinic are being really unhelpful and insensitive! I would consider a wee complaint or moving elsewhere if there are other options near you! It’s such a hard thing to go through and if you are paying them a lot of money as well you would expect a better level of care, information and compassion than it sounds like you are getting 😢 sending you a big hug 🤗 xx

Hi, thank you for your reply, yes I'm on a natural cycle. I managed to speak to one of the "care team" late yesterday afternoon who wasn't a nurse but explained the process in more detail and why testing the day after and the second day of bleed is classed as CD1 or next cycle. Unfortunately stark white FRER this morning and bleed continues so yes it's period. I went into IUI knowing the chances are low to start with so was prepared to deal with my period if it arrives, just as a person have to know what's happening next and yes definitely certain nurses don't have the time for that but absolutely, paying for a service that has increase by approx 70% since June too and not feeling supported isn't good. I have 2 vials left with them so will see how it goes and if not successful with those look to change.

Also I think because my clinic has gone from being a NHS who allowed self funded to now privately owned all feeling very business /money and turn around driven so gone from feeling like a really caring service when I started to I'm an inconvenience to them.

Thanks again for your reply x

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with your clinic. It's understandable that you have concerns and questions about your current situation. It's important to keep in mind that everyone's experience with fertility treatments is different, so it's difficult to say whether your situation is in line with others. However, it's always a good idea to seek a second opinion or find a new clinic if you feel uncomfortable or unsatisfied with your current care.

As for your specific concerns, it's possible that the bleeding you're experiencing could be related to implantation or it could be your period. It's difficult to say without further evaluation. If you're unsure about the nurse's advice, it's always okay to seek a second opinion or clarification from your doctor.

Regarding the pregnancy test, it's possible that it may be too early to get an accurate result. It's typically recommended to wait until after a missed period to take a pregnancy test. However, if you do take the test and it comes back negative, it's still possible that you could be pregnant and it's just too early to detect it.

Overall, it's important to trust your instincts and advocate for yourself during this process. Don't hesitate to ask questions or seek a second opinion if you feel uncertain or uncomfortable. you can find the best IUI clinic here : bestivfclinic.co.in/service...
