Cramping and bleeding 5 weeks

I am losing it and need some reassurance. We had our first FET on 1 November, BFP on 12 November and HCG 1900 on 15 November. I have been having some cramping on and off. On Friday (18 November) I had some cramping and when I went to do my pessary in the evening I had some watery pink bleeding. Enough to be in the bowl and when wiping. It stopped after that and the cramping seemed to die down. Then last night I woke with cramping and this morning I had a fair amount of brown blood on my liner. The cramps have been going on all day and I've had more brown blood which has been stringy like a period.

I called the clinic out of hours on Friday night and was told they can't really do much and just to monitor it and call back if it becomes red. I'm going to call again tomorrow and see if I can get another HCG to see what's going on. My scan is booked for 6 December and they don't seem keen to scan before then.

We had a MMC (8 weeks) in February and I am so worried that we are losing another one.

Does anyone have any positive stories with similar circumstances?

Sorry I can't add anything positive, but if you see my posts you'll see I'm in pretty much identical circumstances and timings! I ended up in A&E this morning as my clinic was shut all weekend and I had quite a lot of bright red blood and a clot pass last night. The bleeding has now subsided and I had an external ultrasound at the hospital which showed that the gestational sac was still there, so I have a tiny sliver of hope. Going to call the clinic tomorrow and ask for bloods and ultrasound. It's all such a worry, so I feel for you. Hopefully if your bleeding is relatively light and brown, it is old blood and not anything worse. Let me know how you get on tomorrow, hoping for the best for you xx

Just looked at your posts and we really are in very similar positions! It is totally terrifying isn't it? I am trying to reassure myself that it isn't red yet but I've got such a lot of cramping it really doesn't feel good. I'm so glad they saw the sac in your scan, fingers crossed for you! Xx

So so scary. Every time I go to the toilet I'm paranoid I'll see blood again. It was so sudden and out of nowhere. Really hope your cramps subside. Keeping my fingers crossed for you too xxx

How did you get on today? My clinic finally called me back at 5 and have booked me in for another HCG tomorrow morning so hopefully will have some answers by end of Wednesday x

Same! Bleeding has stopped and booked in for bloods tomorrow morning. Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that they show the numbers going up and not down xxx

Sorry you are worried, are you doing your pessary vaginally or rectally? The cervix often gets quite irritated by them and can cause this sort of bleeding, I also had it after sex in early pregnancy as well. The cervix seems to be more sensitive in IVF pregnancies for some reason. Is it a pessary you can change to rectally, it might stop then x

Thanks for replying. I am doing them vaginally. It's lutigest which uses an applicator to insert so not sure if they can go rectally? I am just so worried because of all the cramping coming with it.

I don’t think you can change them to rectally but your clinic may offer you an alternative. I honestly had very similar and all was fine it was just my cervix being irritated and it felt crampy so crossing my fingers for you 🤞🏻

I had pink spotting which turned brown quickly last Sunday at 5+1 spotting lasted most of the day and then stopped I had bloods done and hcg looked good, then on Thursday at 5+5 I had a huge bright red bleed gushes of blood that lasted about 5 hours and then just stopped I also had awful cramps. I was scanned I. Friday and we were able to see a tiny wee baby with a heart beat I was told I had a subchorionic haemorrhage and that they could still see a pocket of blood beside the gestational sac and that I would probably bleed again but they said it’s common and most of the time the baby is ok I actually had one when I was pregnant with my daughter but it was less dramatic and was just spotting for 6 days. I have been told to stay off work and to take things very easy, the cramps come back if I stand or walk to much. I have another scan booked on the 30th so I’m praying everything is still ok.

That sounds so scary. I'm glad you got an answer and saw the heartbeat. It's so difficult not knowing what is going on in there. Fingers crossed for your scan on the 30th x

I started with bleeding at week 6 after they told me to stop progesteron. My bleeding became red. They checked the progesterone but they said it was ok (low normal limit). I continued bleeding usually continuously and sometimes on and off, until week 20. I had blood clots the size of my hand, and suddely a lot of blood amd menstrual cramping that would then stop and next day restart. Sometimes it was brown, or pink... normally it was bright red. They did not find anything wrong. They said it was not normal, but could not find the reason. Doctor said that maybe they could not see what was wrong, but my body fixed it for me. Now i just get period cramps sometimes. Baby seems to be ok in every ultrasound.

This must have been so scary, especially if they couldn't tell you why! I had bright red blood yesterday and I'm praying they tell me today that everything is ok.

I hope that all goes well for you. With me they found at the time that I had possible placenta previa and velamentous cord insertion, but they told me it was too soon to measure accurately (and my gynecologist confirmed later that this was a mistake by the midwife that checked me in urgencies. The placenta previa solved by itself and the cord is correctly inserted and did not cause the bleeding). Until now, it remains "unknown". I was waiting for the worse for weeks. But it was apparently all ok. My advice is, take a deep breath, i know it is difficult, but everything can happen. And "everything" can also include a positive thing. They also told me to try to not stress as this made things worse (because of other hormons being thrown into the mix) and that if you have a miscarriage in the frst trimester, there is little that you or they can do, except keeping an eye on it for complications. The thought is scary, but it helped me to relax a bit: it is out of my hands (even out of the specialists hands) and I can't do much to prevent it, except waiting until they want to carry an ultrasound (and even then, there is no warranty that things will be ok the next day). So it is not always bad, and the cause is not always known, and it is not all the times the worst case scenario.

That must have been so terrifying. Glad to hear you're doing ok though. It's all the not knowing that is stressful!

Yes it was very stressful. In my country of origin, if you get a bit of blood in the first trimester they call it immediately an "abortion threat" and so you have to be in full rest for days. Here they are more chill about it (but also they check you more I think), and are more like "no visible problems, all looks fine" and they just told me to rest during the afternoon and to keep an eye on it and to go work the next day. That during the first trimester prolonged rest or other measures are not proven to avoid a miscarriage and that they could not do much either (that there are some things to do in the second and third trimester, but not in the first). So to just relax and to go there everytime I was bleeding (which was every day), until they told me to just wait for my next prenatal visit (my gynecologist said this was not ok, and they should have told me to go after every bleeding... but it was like all the time, at all hours like a light period). Until now all seems ok, hopefully in my next appointment things still look fine... no more bleeding in 3 weeks which is good for my peace of mind! But well, apparently sometimes things can look bad, but still be ok. Try to be careful and watchful, but don't stress too much (hormons are released during stress that make stuff worse). I was worried and scared for weeks, and it was ok. Not always is the worst case scenario even if it looks like it. I hope all goes well for you.

Hi, yes I had very similar lots of on and off bleeding which stopped some time before 12 weeks but was so terrifying. On my scan they could see a hematoma which explained it but it didn’t make me feel much better about it at the time. My daughter is 4 now. Good luck.
