Egg collection with low follicle count, outcome better than expected!

Just thought I’d update my story incase anyone else is in similar situation and just wants some hope! Only had 3 large follicles at last scan (3 days ago - 3 more than 10mm, one at 10mm, another 3 less than 10mm). With a low AMH, we proceeded to EC! Pre procedure when the doctor spoke to me she said she was aiming to get the 3 eggs from the large follicles but couldn’t promise anything, and also said that ovaries with few amount of follicles tend to sit ‘higher’ so risk of damaging bowel/other organs is higher. Sometimes if an ovary is inaccessible they would abandon it, at this point I was deflated!! However they managed to get 8 eggs! So I left the clinic feeling happy, they must have continued to grow over the few days between last scan and EC 😊 xx

That's a really positive outcome You must be so happy!

I was similar in that we thought for the first few scans that we were on track to get 3 and then the forecast was 3-5 but we actually ended up with 7! Just goes to show that things can change so quickly between the last scan and collection.

Fingers crossed that all goes well for you in this next stage x

Yes with a failed long protocol (as I failed to down regulate) it is the first positive news for me I feel! Still a journey to go but 🤞🏼 thanks for the luck x

that's thats excellent news I'm so happy for you. my clinic won't collect they told me my eggs have to be above 18mm otherwise they wont be mature enough.

Yep my clinic were the same aiming for 18mm. My 3 ‘large follicles’ were 16mm, 19mm and 21mm 3 days before EC so I guess what I’m trying to say is things can change for the positive late on 🤞🏼 xx

Hi April26 . Congrats. Can you please tell me , what was your protocol. I hv low amh and two failed ivf cycles. Also wondering how come three follicles can produce 8 eggs? In my second ivf from the beginning I had only 3 follicles on the left and they din find any on the right. Eventually they retrieved just 3 . Would be nice if you can provide any useful tips

Hi babyhope8, of course happy to help! Sorry to hear about two fails! I am on the short protocol, (failed to down regulate on the long protocol so that got cancelled) So I took northisterone to control period, then meriofert (from day 2) and cetrotide (from day 7) for 13 days! You are correct though you can only have one egg from each follicle, I had 3 scans to check the sizes in the second week of stimming, and if you read post I had 3 ‘on grade’ follicles by my last scan but also had some smaller ones! It just means that those smaller follicles caught up in size between my last scan and egg collection! I did ask the question though and they said sometimes the follicles catch up but also as good as the scans are these days sometimes they just don’t see all the follicles that are there on every scan! It might also mean that they took some eggs from smaller follicles ‘while they were there’ type thing just to see? (But that’s just me saying that) Hope that helps/clears my original post up for you xx

Hi Cassie! I am just on my way home (hubby driving) from the clinic from my transfer!! I had a 3 day transfer! My embryo was at 12 cells so they were really happy and wanted to get it back in as soon as! They will let our others grow until Saturday but it looks unlikely we will have any to freeze unfortunately we had 6 fertilised but the others are slow growers!! I’m a bit nervous about this two week wait now! But going to try and keep my body chilled and my mind busy! How have you been getting on? Xx
