I was scanned early today and told egg collection would be Tuesday. They’d call me with the timing of the trigger later today. 8 nice follicles. Great.
I’ve just received a phone call saying that my egg collection is now be Wednesday because they aren’t open for PGT-A biopsies on Sunday when my embryos would be 5 days old. Not because this is optimum for my treatment.
Like WTAF. Has anyone encountered this before? What did you do?
I obviously booted off and they’re calling me back but like, suggestions welcome?

I had a sort of similar situation - I was told my egg collection would be a Friday, then at a scan two days before they decided to delay until the following Tuesday to allow the follicles some extra time. My husband and I were really disappointed but came to terms with it, then an hour later when we got home from the clinic they called back saying actually their theatre floors were being relaid on the Tuesday so we would go ahead with Friday after all!
It felt quite disorienting to have the clinic change dates and when they introduced the reason for the changes and it was something completely unrelated to medicine or our best chances we were really quite anxious and stressed. We had to go ahead as this was all happening between 3:30 and 5 in the afternoon as the clinic was closing and our trigger shot was due at midnight that night.
If you're still taking your medication, haven't taken your trigger shot yet, and they're postponing by one day to allow you to transfer at the right time, you just have an extra day for any smaller follicles to have a chance at catching up and getting a better number collected. It's such an emotional time that changes to plans, especially when they don't seem linked to your treatment, feel cataclysmic. It sounds like you get an extra day for growth and then the delay means the PGA-T testing can go ahead, so talk to the clinic if you're concerned but it should all be ok.
Could your embryos have biopsies on Day 6 instead? That would be worth asking them in my opinion. It would surely be best to be triggered when it was optimum for you and not when it is optimum for the PGTA test centre!?!
I had a similar experience. Delayed trigger on the Friday to the Saturday because they don’t do retrievals on a Sunday. It allowed 3 more of my eggs to get in ‘the zone’, so it worked out for me. I also got a really good embryo, so maybe the delay allowed my egg to mature? I will never know.Good luck!
Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions and shared experiences.
I understand shuffling egg collection to let little follicles grow a bit more, but my worry was that the decision was being based on based on convenience not what is best for me medically. Therefore I asked the professor (who is doing the retrieval) to send some links to studies that show moving egg collection from the optimum day doesn’t affect outcomes. And he did, so that’s reassuring!
Fingers crossed it all goes well on Wednesday and I get a good haul of eggs.
