First time FET questions

Morning all,

We have just had our first fresh transfer which unfortunately failed. We have 2 frozen embryos which we will move onto next. We have an appt with the clinic on the 12th May to chat next steps.

But could someone who has been through a FET before just give me a quick overview of what to expect? Medication you had to take, timeframes, how you prepped your body mentally and physically etc?

Thanks :)

Heya, sorry about your first one failing. My first fresh one failed too. I think FETs do have a very slightly higher success rate. I had a FET in January. I started off taking Estrogen Tablets for a week or two (sorry can’t remember exactly) and then I think about 5 days before egg transfer you start taking progesterone. I think the timeline is similar to a fresh round. They scan you before this to make sure that your lining is thick enough. Then transfer is exactly like the fresh one. They have to call you on the day to let you know if the embryo survived the thaw. The progesterone I used was a Lubion injection in the morning and a pessary in the morning and the evening. I found that the progesterone made me extremely tired everyday. My FET worked but sadly ended in miscarriage at 7weeks. I think most likely down to my egg quality. I have severe endo :( I did lots of jogging and acupuncture to prepare and carried on with the acupuncture throughout the cycle. Going to start a second cycle next month! I found the FET much easier (apart from the tiredness), and didn’t have the pain I experienced from the fresh round. I think that was due to the high estrogen levels. Wishing you lots of luck! Xx

Hey, thanks for your reply, it's all super helpful. For the fresh I was on pessaries 3x a day and 1x Lubion injection aswell and agree - the tiredness was extreme! Sorry to hear the outcome of your fresh and 1st FET wasn't what you hoped, got my fingers crossed for you in the next round. It will be good to have a scan for my lining, I didn't have that this time around and know mine if often thin so will ask for them to do this as part of the FET. I do a lot of walking and yoga and plan to keep this up. I also have been gong to acupuncture which I have found so useful so once we've had our Drs appt next week get some more sessions booked in. Thanks so much again for replying and all the best with your 2nd cycle next month - we may even end up being cycle buddies! x

Yeah I’m hoping to start mid June if all goes to plan. I had an EMMA/ALICE test done yesterday to see if I need a course of antibiotics before I start. I forgot to mention that if it’s successful you have to continue all the meds until about 12 weeks. I didn’t realise this when I started the FET. Sorry you had the extreme tiredness too! I had to nap everyday! I also found doing jigsaw puzzles in the evenings and staying off google as much as possible helped me to be calmer. The first round I was driving myself mad googling so much! Not sure if it made a difference or not. So much luck to you and let me know if you start in June :) xxxx

Ah wow, we sound so similar I did a jigsaw too and was just thinking I'll need to treat myself to a new one for the FET - they're so good at occupying time aren't they! Yeah I heard about the meds for 12 weeks - prepared for lots of tiredness but just got to think the potential outcome is worth it. I will keep you posted when we know when we're starting xx
