Testing progesterone & ERA

SpanishSunshineDays profile image

I have had two failed transfers. My lining was good but they never tested my progesterone and I've noticed on here a lot of people have had theirs tested. In both cases I took Cyclogest progesterone pessaries post trigger (one round was non medicated/low med with just trigger). Should I be testing my progesterone? And should I have had an ERA?

Hi there,Im really sorry you've not had success so far.

My clinic don't routinely test progesterone levels but as I have a short cycle and had my period start before the end of the 2ww I pushed to have it tested and showed as slightly low so they now top up with Lubion. I understand there's no harm in too much so you could just ask them to increase from the standard amount. Either way chat to your consultant and see what they say.

ERA wise I've just decided to do it. It's expensive, will take a month to do then 3 weeks for results and is still a red on the HFEA traffic light but there are a lot of ladies on here who did it and found the transfer needed to be adjusted and then had success. Feel free to read my last post and some of the advice from others on there.

Wishing you all the best and hope for success. Xx

Neither my NHS nor private clinic did this routinely, but I was worried that progesterone was the problem so I got it tested at my GPs - my two fresh transfers I was on cyclogest only and but those were both early losses and on one I spotted before OTD. I got it tested after the BFPs but that was probably too late. On the first FET I had, my clinic also agreed progesterone could be the problem so they tested it on day of transfer - levels were ok but lower than they wanted so they added extra lubion. I then continued to have it monitored at my GP and using an online company. Haven't had ERA as my first two seem to implant ok, just not last, but lots of women seem to get good information from it.

I would definitely try to get your progesterone tested if you can. My clinic doesn't do it routinely but on my 3rd transfers I offered to pay for it. I think it can be really important (see my post earlier today!). For me, cyclogest alone is never enough, lubion is much better. I just don't absorb cyclogest well. It took my first transfer being ruined by very early bleeding to figure this out, and it frustrates me as the money we spend and heartache we go through just to create ONE embryo is horrific- so we should have everything checked and tested in case things like progesterone levels ARE too low, then things can be salvaged in time. Regarding ERA, I wanted to do this as I always said if I do 3 transfers with no BFP at all, it's worth checking out. Xx

I was just reading your post and sorry to hear about everything you have been through 💕 Can I just ask you mentioned your progesterone levels were low and you need Lubion , is that just on the day or do you need to continue it till 8-12 weeks? Xx
