Can I have a successful pregnancy after 3 miscarriages? And can I be successful with a 5BB and 6BC? 😞

I’ve had 3 miscarriages, the first one from a natural pregnancy.

With my first round of IVF on NHS we had 4 blastocysts, I had a miscarriage from my first fresh transfer and one from my first FET.

With the second miscarriage we had the miscarriage tissue tested and our boy was healthy. Is this good news? Now I will have the tissue tested this time too.

Now I have one 5BB and one “we thought it was worth freezing it” 6BC blastocyst left, and we have to transfer them privately as our rounds with NHS are finished.

Do I need to transfer them to a private clinic?

Anyone with recurrent miscarriage who had a successful pregnancy?

Hey hun so sorry you are going through this. I myself had 3 natural pregnancies and 3 IVF pregnancies all ended too early. Have you had any recurrent miscarriage investigation? Normally after 3 you can request a referral to a recurrent miscarriage consultant so they can do further investigation and find what causing your losses. Saying that with my investigation they didn't find anything, so I still don't know what's not working for me. And of course you can get to have a successful pregnancy, I've seen many ladies from the IVF communities who had number of losses but all got to have their miracle at the end.

Now is all too fresh, so take some time to recover physically and mentally, then get your GP to refer you to have some investigation. You've got some really good embryos, so I'm sure one or even both of them will be your miracle/s.

Hi hun, sorry for your losses ❤️ yes I had them done with NHS after the second loss already. Hopefully the private clinic will investigate more. For now it seems problems might be PCOC, MTHFR heterozygous mutation, NK cells slightly out of the range but I did take clexane, aspirin, steroids, progesterone ecc and intralipids. The only thing I should have started intralipids before transfer, but I did one week after. Going privately next time makes me feel better, it’s just a shame I will pay lots of money and do not have top quality embryos. Hey love, sorry that you are finding yourself planning the next transfer. It’s something I found so difficult post loss. The unfairness in having to go through it again.

Does your nhs clinic also have private patients, so that you can pay to transfer them there instead?

I think BBs are good little embryos!

Thank you, I think I can but I still need to do all the treatments in the private clinic before the transfer that’s why I’m confused on how this will work. I have an appointment with the private clinic in 2 weeks and we will take it from there xxx

Hi. Sorry sorry for your loss. I don't have experience of recurrent miscarriage but I have read about the ERA/Emma/Alice test. I recall listening to a webinar on Fertility Network that talked a lot about gut microbiome. Something to consider.And definitely don't worry about the grading of your embryos .

Sorry to jump in here! I also had EMMA and ALICE tests because of recurrent miscarriages. According to my consultant, the microbiome can affect implantation but also cause miscarriages. No surprise that when I had those tests they came back completely abnormal and before my last (successful!) transfer I was on antibiotics and probiotics. Hello lovely, I am so sorry for your losses. It is devastating and so sad... My heart breaks for you 😢😢😢 I know how you feel -I had 5 losses (four in the first trimester and one late one) Hope is the only thing that kept me going. It is so hard though... Take a day at a time and take the time you need to heal.

We had lots of tests done and I would be very happy to help if you have any questions or want to PM me. I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and this last time we did quite a few different things. I was prescribed aspirin, heparin, steroids and hydroxychloroquine. I also suffer from PCOS and this time is the only time I have been on metformin too. My consultant seemed to think that metformin could also help prevent miscarriages in cases of PCOS and insuline resistance, which I have.

At the beginning I was told "these things happen" and most miscarriages happen due to chromosome abnormalities... and I am also nearly 38, so it may be an age issue. However, the autopsy of our baby boy born sleeping at nearly 18 weeks came back normal and he was a healthy boy. Nothing was conclusive and they thought it could have been due to placental problems/ blood clotting issues. I suffer from PCOS, severe endometriosis, had a T-shape uterus and have several autoinmune diseases, so they thought these could have affected my pregnancies too... but I didn't get any real answers, which I found very hard. I had 2 first trimester miscarriages back to back and the culprit was sticky blood. I have antiphospholipid syndrome and Factor V Leiden. Under the care of a hematologist, I started blood thinners when stimulating and throughout my pregnancy. Will also need to take them for 6 weeks post partum. So far - 38 weeks - so good (*touch wood). My DMs are always open for you. And don't lose heart, 5BB in particular is an excellent embryo! Unless they're in the Ds you're splitting hairs about As and Bs. My pregnancy was a 5AB but I have a few BB embryos in the freezer which are completely viable as well as BCs and CCs. Xxx

Thank you, I’ve already had aspirin and 2 Clexane per day 😔 I had the Factor V Leiden checked and it’s normal. I honestly don’t know what else they can try next but at least I know this clinic leaves nothing unturned. Thank you Bella xxx

Have you tested for APS? Antiphospholipid syndrome? It's a much bigger deal than factor 5 and you might need the dose adjusted. Just to check it off your list.

Yes you can be successful with those embryos. I had 3 chemicals, did lots of tests after that and decided to transfer our last normal embryos a 5BB and a 5BC, now my embryos are my little 3 months old twins. You have all the changes to be successful, stay strong and positive 🤩💞

I was over the moon when I read the news about your twins 🥰 I am not sure if it was you but I think I’ve read your clinic recommended a double transfer due to elevated NK cells or did I dream of this? I am wondering if I should transfer both together with the private clinic and if is not successful then have a new fresh cycle x

Indeed, they advised me to transfer 2 in case one is attacked I will have one developing, but we been lucky enough with steroids to keep this pregnancy until the end. If you are not afraid of multiple pregnancy then DET is a perfect option for you. Twins is a hard job - is very tiring and I can barely keep my eyes open but all worth it.

I wonder if they will suggest the same to me, I am sure I will be on steroids from before transfer. This time as I had the transfer on NHS I only started steroids a week after BFP with a private clinic. My NK are only very slightly out of the normal range. Not sure though if it is possible to transfer a day 5 and a day 6 together, or if they both need to be day 5 🤷🏻‍♀️ anyway I will ask at the appointment in 2 weeks! Xxx

As far as i know you can transfer them both on the same day as it is all about embryos development. One embryo can reach expanded blast stage in 5 days others in 6. My embryos were day 6. Keeping everything crossed for you ❤️🤗

I’m currently pregnant with a day 6 embryo which was transferred on a frozen cycle on day 5 (same timeline as my previous transfer which was a day 5 embryo) so as Ranchu said, I don’t think it matters once they are at blast stage xx

Thank you. I also worry what happens if one is healthy and one has some chromosomes problems and they both stick. As I had ivf on NHS they are not pgs tested. What are the odds they will both stick, I had 4 blastocyst and that would mean 4 out of 4, but you never know 🤔

Honestly I don’t know the answer to that but I’m sure it’s something the embryologist could talk to you about and hopefully help you make a decision. I’ve done double and single embryo transfers and I think you have to be comfortable that twins is a real possibility with a double transfer xx

So sorry to hear you’ve had to go through 3 miscarriages. It’s awful and every time that bit worse as your hope starts to go and you wonder exactly this! But don’t give up, I had a miscarriage with my first natural pregnancy - blighted ovum. Then our first round of IVF ended in a miscarriage and then our second round didn’t work with one of our top headed embryos.

3 round was private but our clinic do private work so we were able to stay with them. We transferred 2 embryos this time on which was a 5A and a 5C and both stuck. 32 weeks pregnant with twins at the moment and so fair so good both babies are happy and as healthy as can be seen.

My SIL also had 3 losses, 2 miscarriages and an ectopic all within the last 2 years and is now 15 weeks pregnant the furthest along she has ever been. So it doesn’t mean to say there is something wrong however have your clinic or doctors offered to do a recurrent miscarriage screen? Perhaps ask if not just to ensure there’s nothing going on before you use those little embryos! Good luck! X

I’m so sorry you’ve had 3 losses in a row so bloody heartbreaking🥲 💔 I’ve had a successful pregnancy after a late loss and 2 early losses. My late loss revealed no obvious cause of death which was extremely difficult to accept I was told “ it just happens “ sometimes baby’s do just stop and we don’t always know why 🥲💔 I’m still, stumped why she just died suddenly. Very unexpected so late on🥲 I also had miscarriage tests and again like yourself nothing obvious flagged up- for me I assumed it was maybe my age ( 39 nearly 40 at the time) and maybe a cruel numbers game as we age miscarriage rates go 🥲Having said that lots of ladies have children later on in life 😍 I have heard of stories where ladies have had many losses. ( more than 3) and have had a baby 😍 I do believe in rainbow babies I have 2 after losses 🌈 its very unfair you are going through this and I truly hope your baby is round the corner recurring miscarriages doesn’t mean you can’t have a successful pregnancy ❤️🌈Xx
