Hi I had egg collection done yesterday they got 5 eggs, this morning I’ve had a call saying only two have continued developing and that I’m to go in tomorrow for a double transfer is this normal? When I had my first transfer it was 5 days after egg collection

Is it normal to go for egg transfer two days after egg collection
Hi Marley,
I think most clinics tend to leave to 5 days so they can see how the embryos are developing and chose the one most likely to lead to a successful pregnancy. If there are only 1 or 2 eggs then they'll offer an early transfer so you can get the little embabies back to where they will be comfy and hopefully develop further.
We were given a choice by our clinic when only had 1 fertilise and held out to 5 days as we wanted to know if we could make blastocysts but once knew that I'd have gone with an early transfer in the future.
Having 2 fertilise is still great and you only need 1 so double transfer is a good plan. Good luck for the transfer tomorrow and everything crossed for you in the 2ww. 😊 xx
Day 2 transfers were the norm until just a few years ago - it’s only because science has developed to enable culture to day 5 and statistically obviously more pregnancies result from day 5 because they are putting back a proven blastocyst. But if you only have 2 and are happy doing a double transfer and the risk of twins or triplets then there is no point waiting until day 5 - lots of doctors believe that embryos do better in their natural environment than in a lab
Thank you
Hi Marley. Most clinics wait for 5 days, but if your embryos are a little slow, then best to put them back inside you where they belong. Good luck! Diane
