Help please. Do I stick with conventional or change to natural/modified ICSI?

Hi all,

I am feeling overwhelmed at the moment with decisions to be made.

I have low AMH of 1.6 (Apr 21) and normal FSH. Using donated sperm as on my own.

I have done two rounds of conventional IVF/ICSI both long and short protocols. 1 egg out of two fertilised but End in pregnancy on long protocol. 2 eggs out of 4 fertilised on short and ended in blighted ovum.

I have one more roll of the dice and not sure whether to stick with one more round of conventional or try natural/modified IVF/ICSI at a different clinic, of which I get 3 rounds for roughly the same price as one.

Sounds silly as I know I get three rounds for price of one but I'm struggling with deciding which is the best procedure to go with.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not an easy decision to make but it sounds like you've come to terms with it 😘 So well done for that alone! Lots of women on here use DEs and though nothing is ever guaranteed, lots of ladies get their precious babies this way. The odds for older ladies are much better 👍You'll find lots of success stories if you search past posts. Sending lots of love xx

Hi Lovely. I don't know how but I think this response is one I posted - or tried to!- on a totally different post! So sorry, this probably seemed very random and that's why! The person i'd meant to reply to had decided to go for donor eggs and that's what my reply referred to! Wishing you lots of luck with your next steps xx

Hi, not a problem, I thought it was random lol but didn’t want to ask incase it was for me and therefore be dismissive.Thank you. Xx

I would go with natural/modified for sure. Lower or no stims may give you better quality egg. Can you do multiple IUIs? Or do you need IVF because of some other issue? Depending on age, you may need many rounds to hit a good egg. I also had blighted ovum prior to successful pregnancy, so you never know if the next egg is the one. Good luck!

Hi,

Thank you for responding. I had thought about doing IUI but, unfortunately I have been told it is not worth me doing IUI due to my AMH. I have no other issues that I am aware of.

It's nice to hear you had success. Thank you for sharing with me.

Ok. My AMH was so low, it didn't matter if I did IUI or IVF because one follicle/egg is all I would ever get per cycle. An at home IUI kit is what worked for me in the end.

Oh wow, that’s interesting and so pleased it worked for you. I hope you don’t mind me asking but where did you research about those, such as where to purchase etc.

Hey Blue-cat 33,I have had the same/ if not better success with low stims. I have low AMH 2.3 and high FSH 19, follicle count 4-6 depending on time of month.

I tried std IVF and achieved 2 eggs and they took 1 other but it was small (13mm) and did not make it to an embryo. I had one transfer at day 5. No success .

Few months later on regular IVF my body wouldn’t respond to the meds, they bumped up the menopur and actually things started to go down hill - so aborted cycle.

I changed clinic and we went with low stim and 3 good eggs were collected, 3 embryos and on day 2, 2 embryos made it and both transferred- now in my two week wait. From my experience you have nothing to lose.

More eggs is always better though, but a good clinic should make the call( as my current one did to go with low stims last month) depending on your bloods and scan when your cycle is due to start. Every month could be different as FSH can fluctuate.

How that helps and best of luck with your decision- I was very torn with waiting another month for better bloods to do a normal cycle, but glad I went with low stims (also cheaper) and still achieved 3 eggs. So totally understand the predicament.

Hi, thank you for responding and sharing your experience. It appears that low stims is the way to go. All the best for your two week wait and I will keep my fingers crossed that you get a positive. Xx

Hi Blue-cat/ With a normal FSH hopefully via a modified cycle, you will get some decent eggs that want to come out, rather than are forced out. Good luck! Diane

From personal experience better to go with ICSI or IMSI - wish someone had told me this before. Good luck Xx

hi lovely!! I am in the same boat. my AMH is 1, FSH 6. I did normal IVF with high stims and was a poor responder. 3 eggs grew and none fertilised (however my fsh was high on that cycle). So this next cycle I'm doing modified IVF with letrezole & low stimms. I completely understand the dilemma, as everything is about getting more eggs. however there no good it the quality isn't there 💕 x
