Subchorionic Hematoma 10 weeks

Hi everyone,

So yesterday morning we went in for our 10 week scan and everything looked great with baby. Good size good heartbeat, however they did see a hematoma about 3cm X 1.5cm ( no idea if that’s big small or medium) Last night my wife started bleeding and we’re freaking out. She had kind of a heavy bleed around 8pm then stayed in bed the rest of the night and it’s now mostly spotting and brownish.

Messaged both our current OB and our fertility doctor. OB said to come in today and check everything but our fertility doctor said to absolutely NOT go in for another vaginal ultrasound. He said to stay home rest and wait it out and said he believes everything will be ok. We are new to this OB but have blind faith in our fertility doc so we’ll do what he says. But how do we know everything is ok inside?

Any similar experiences out there?

Hope everything settles down If bleeding continues it might be a good idea to get back in touch with your fertility Dr Thinking of you

Hi GBB87, I had a subchorionic haematoma at 17 weeks - it was massive 10cm x 6cm - and I bled for 3 weeks continuously.During this time I had abdominal scans weekly to check that it was going and slowly it bleed out (and I think some of it reabsorbed too).

It was a really stressful time, but I was really reassured by each scan and just waited it out.

I didn't do much at all during this time, no lifting of anything heavier than a kettle, no exercise, a lot of laying down and naps.

It will go away, it just takes a bit of time and it's so worrying isn't it.

xx

Thank you for replying. I really appreciate the reassurance. We are going to our OB now to get an external scan. 🙏🏼

If it helps, they are much more common in IVF pregnancies although I'm not sure why.Hope all goes well with your scan - I'm sure it will be fine.

I had a very similar experience, had a SCH picked up on a 8.5 week scan which was a similar size to yours. 6 days later I had a huge red bleed, through my clothes and everything. Lightly bleed the rest of the day and then brown spotting for a few days following. The following day I had a scan and sonographer could see that the SCH had caused the bleed and resolved itself. I’m now 25 weeks and have had no issues since.

I will say that all my scans were abdominal, there is no need for a vaginal scan at 10 weeks. At this point I would trust your OB’s judgement over your fertility doctor xx

Hi,

I am having a hematoma now. I am currently 9 weeks and it started at 6. I had to go to E&A 3 times because all of the bleed I had.

I think at this stage the person responsible for the follow up of the pregnancy should be the OB.

They made always vaginal scan and that didn't caused any harm.

I believe on the guidance of the doctors , they see hundreds of cases.

The only thing she can do is rest, and not to panic. (I know it's not easy)

Good luck😉

Thanks for your input. We had an abdominal scan yesterday and they said baby looks good. However my wife is still spotting brownish and definitely some on toilet paper when she wipes.

Additionally, we’ve noticed when she urinates that the bowl has a bunch of tiny little pieces of what seems like tissue maybe. Kind of looks like there are small crumbs in the water. Did this happen to you too?

Exactly the same! I am experiencing the same symptoms.

I've relaxed on my third visit to A&E, because the doctor told me that it looks fine, but also because she said that the hematoma was not going to be a factor on the success or failure. She told me that if something doesn't go well, it wouldn't be because of this, but that doesn't mean to don't do rest.

She needs to take it easy as much as possible.

I know that our babies will be fine 😉

From my experience weekly vaginal scans were okay and at 10 weeks an external one should also work. I was scanned vaginally weekly until 8 weeks (got SCH at 5 weeks) and then at 10 weeks externally. I bled massive amounts with clots twice and lots of brown bleeding and pink spotting and by the 10-11th week it stopped and they couldn’t see the hematoma anymore on scans (healthy baby born at 39 weeks) the advise I got was Lots and lots of bed rest like she should only get up to pee and go for scans for a few weeks. Hope all is well xxx

That’s good news from your scan 🤗 Yes lots of little bits and on two occasions I passed golf ball sized clots! They were different to my miscarriage though (no tissue and no really bad cramps) xx

I had a SCH at 6 weeks, had a big red bleed which lasted about a day then brown spotting which lasted 2-3 days. I also had 3 vaginal scans that week to check on it. It had gone by the end of the week and I’m now 28 weeks pregnant and haven’t had an issues since xx

Yes the brown was very bitty, the sonographer just said this is old blood from the SCH and nothing the worry about. Took a while for that to stop but was a good sign meant it was going and as I say haven’t had anything since thankfully. I think they’re quite common but it is very worrying when you’re going through it

I had one as well from about 9 weeks till I was 32 weeks. Sometimes it was a light bleed, and other times it felt like the heavens had opened; some clots and little pieces.. it was scary so I can appreciate how you both must feel.

It was reassuring to have abdominal scans ( I had them almost fortnightly) and see my daughter’s heart beating and limbs flapping about.

It’s easier said than done but try to stay calm and get lots of rest. I also took iron supplements b cause of all the blood loss.

My daughter had no birth complications, is 4 now and is perfectly fine.

I wish you the very best xx
