Hi, I’m 41, I have one last shot of IVF ahead. Odds are massively stacked against us as husband has a balanced translocation of chromosomes 4:12 ( two bits snap off and swap places).
I’d like to improve my egg quality- what supplements can help with this?

Hi. It’s not for everyone but ‘ It starts with the egg’ has a comprehensive list for female/male. It takes 90 days for them to have an effect. I don’t have it to hand but includes uniquinol, NAC, methylfolate among others. It might be worth getting your current vitamin levels checked via Medichecks for instance. In particular vitamin D. Good luck x
Hello - just a thought but might be worth your husband taking something too. If I'm remembering correctly folate/ methylfolate and ubiquinol/ CoQ10 might be of benefit. Everything is listed on the It takes an egg webpage. Good luck🙏x
Eat plenty of leafy greens, whole grain ,lean meat ,nuts, fresh veg and fruit Try to reduce refined carbs ,processed foods or meat ,and excessive salt and sugar . Make sure drinking plenty of fluids .Manage stress long walks -try yoga - it is a healthy and relaxing way to improve blood flow [ pelvic area] some poses offer a specific fertility benefit ie lotus position Good luck for the futureJanet
I have done 4 rounds of ICSI, 1 private and 3 NHS with only 2 of the 4 cycles producing any usable eggs. I used the recommendations of It Starts With The Egg for our last round of treatment in Oct as it was our last NHS cycle and we had decided it would therefore be our last round before looking at donor eggs as we weren’t going to move on to pay for something that wasn’t working for us. You definitely have to take some of the recommendations with a pinch of salt or you would go crazy and the supplements are not cheap but I figured it was worth a go so I would feel like I had given our last chance our all. I was already taking 75mg DHEA as recommended by clinic, 5mg folic acid prescribed and 3000ui vitamin d but I added in high level omega 3, vitamin c, vitamin e and 300mg bio-quinine (the pharma nord one recommended in the book). I also swapped to sulphate free toiletries, cut out alcohol and caffeine and had reflexology once a week. I didn’t buy the other recommended supplements as some were very difficult to get, super expensive or I’d just never heard of them and was therefore a bit dubious about taking them and things like melatonin you would need a prescription for in the Uk and my GP friend thought it was a bad idea and that I’d be unlikely to get a prescription anyway. I also bought my husband the pharma nord b-daddy supplements and l-carnitine. I have no idea whether any of them helped but it did feel good to be trying something positive before our last round and whether it was all the pills or just plain luck I am now 15 week pregnant so I feel it was worth the shot. Good luck with your last round. Xx
