Hi all, hoping for some advice. I was diagnosed with pcos and given letrozole to help. I started last month and on my day 10 scan it wasn't having any impact so was advised to try it again next (this) cycle.
My period started 4 days ago. I took a pg test a day or two before it started which was negative so I started letrozole on day 2 as instructed.
My period this month has been very different to any other and in fact is very light and very dark brown. I don't need a pad or tampon or anything.
I had a second pg test and took it this morning to get rid of it as I don't like having them around really as they are just a reminder of the constant negatives. I had planned to throw it out but thought what the hell.
I took it and its positive. I think its probably the letrozole causing that but wanted to check if anyone has had a similar experience?
Thanks.

Hi imnotveryoriginal. Looks to me as if the letrozole has done the trick, so well done and let your clinic know as they may want to do a blood Beta hCG test. Hope all continues as it should. Diane
Do not take any more letrozole. Letrozole would not cause a positive test. Obviously the bleeding you had was implantation bleeding. .I would def call your prescribing doctor and also let them know you took letrozole and the dosage from day 2 and any other days since then. As far as I know letrozole is contra indicated for pregnancy
Hi thanks for your reply. I did phone my fertility clinic and told them everything. I'm booked in for bloods tomorrow morning but I think this is a chemical pregnancy. 😔
Oh I really am hoping and praying its not .. stay positive for the moment until you know more.
If it does turn out to be a CP take solace that you have made it this far .. I know it won't make it any better but it has def helped me over the years. Equally it also looks like letrozole can help you.. I recommend getting a basal metabolic thermometer and using daily when ttc, it can really help to identify ovulation and pregnancy. Praying 🙏 it all does work out for you x
Hi, thanks for your reply. I'll update the post as I know more. I was doing bbt for a long time but it really stressed me out. Will maybe look at doing it again if this doesn't work out x
Ye I know it's really annoying doing the whole temp thing. I use femometer so it automatically syncs up to my phone. I found this the easiest. It's just when taking medications on the TTC journey sometimes pregnancy tests can be slow to show a positive whereas if you are pregnant your temp will stay high so it will give you reassurance for the next cycle on what to do. If its staying high then do daily pregnancy tests and if its starting to drop it usually indicates your period is about to start. Will light a candle 🕯 that this is a little sticky bean xx
Sounds like implantation bleeding. I didn’t have it with my dd but mistaked it for a period (like yours lighter and wouldn’t have needed a pad) on a pregnancy (ectopic) this summer and was almost 8 weeks before I took a test. I’ve had 3 ectopic so I knew I had a risk of this.
Fingers crossed this is a good sticky one for you. The journey is so bloody hard! We’re back at IVF and hoping round 10 is the charm. The very best of luck with your blood work. Xx
Hi, thanks for your reply. Sorry about your losses. Its so hard. I am worried this is ectopic or CP due to the bleeding. I'm really keeping everything crossed for something positive. Did my blood test this morning so will know more this evening. I hope your next round of ivf is the charm! Will keep the post updated x
Hi all, an update as promised. My beta hcg results weren't great. They are very low at 98 so I need to repeat again in 48 hours. Hopefully its just super early in the pregnancy but dates wise I should be further along than those number suggest.
Guys I wanted to give you an update. My second beta hcg test came back and the level has risen to 213. I also have a darker positive line on hpt so its moving in the right direction! So happy/nervous! Booked in for a scan on 3rd Feb to check progress!
Hi Nat, so after a lot of confusion and hospital trips, hcg dropped significantly followed by a large bleed then started doubling again only for scans to show nothing in the uterus. Long story short, unfortunately ended up as an ectopic pregnancy, likely twins due to the fall and rise of the hcg. It was nothing to do with the letrozole though and after I waited the recommended time, I took letrozole again and conceived on that cycle. I now have an absolutely amazing little girl! Basically, letrozole has been amazing for me! LG is happy and healthy and we are going to start trying for number 2 soon! Wish you all the best with your pregnancy ❤️❤️
