Covid and cancelling FET

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely Xmas.

I just wondered if anyone has had to cancel their FET half way through due to catching Covid?

I have been on buserilin injections since the 10th December and tomorrow I have my scan and bloods to then start the tablets to thicken the lining for the egg to be put back week beginning 10th Jan.

I woke up with a Really bad headache this morning and took a Lateral Flow Test which was negative. My husband also took one even though he didn’t have any symptoms and his has come back positive! We have both been for PCR tests this morning and are awaiting the results.

I just wondered if you would still go for your scan and bloods tomorrow if your husband was positive but I was negative? Or what happens at this point if we are both positive. I just feel so desperate for it not to be cancelled but I guess it is out of my hands really and I just wondered if it had happened to anyone else? We are private now and not sure if we will lose the money too which isn’t helping as everything is so expensive and we will have to save up again which will take a while.

Thanks if you read to the end x

Hey Spottydog444 the same thing happened to me during my fresh transfer in the summer. My husband tested positive just before I was due to have EC / transfer. I called my clinic and told them and they said as long as I was continuing to test negative and I self isolated from him we could continue. So that’s what we did. My transfer went ahead as planned. Best to tell your clinic so they can put any protocols in place. In our case all the nurses who saw me had additional PPE and we went straight into the room to be seen rather than wait in the waiting area etc. hope it goes ok xxx

Thank you so much for the reply. I’m so nervous about the results coming through. I’m glad you managed to get to transfer. It’s so nerve wracking doing IVF in a pandemic! X

Hi Spottydog444, I had the same happen to me after I had started the estrogen to thicken my lining, my son tested positive and at the time you all had to isolate if someone in your household tested positive so I had to cancel the cycle, they told me to stop medication and that my period would start usually within a few days and then I could start medication again, I then tested positive a few days later and my period also started after approximately 5 days of stopping medication, my clinic don’t do the burselin injection you just start estrogen on the second day of your period they said as I had already had a scan of my lining before thickening it the previous month they were happy for me to start the medication to thicken my lining and as long as I had a negative lateral flow test on the day of my scan to check the lining had thickened as this was after my 10 day isolation period then they will go ahead with transfer, thankfully it came back negative and I could go ahead with transfer and I’m now 22 weeks pregnant, I was paying private but with an NHS clinic and there were no charges for cancelling the cycle and starting again I just had to pay for more medication, I hope everything works out for you x

If its cancelled do you know if we have to pay the cancellation fees due to getting covid and not choosing to cancel but having to?

So at the minute mine is still going ahead. They have said as I am just on buserilin I was fine to carry on. I have to test negative on a lateral flow to be able to go in on Friday which will be my day 11. Will keep you posted if it doesn’t go ahead how much I have to pay in fees etc x

Oh bless you, so hard when it is literally out of your hands. I would say try not to worry. I’ve been anxious about this situation but it will all work out in the end I’m sure. Hope you remain negative and it goes smoothly for you x

Oh just seen this! I hope both your and your husband are ok! And I wish you all the best with your FET! If you can’t continue, your day will come, but hopefully clinic won’t charge again as like you say, it is so out of your control! Hopefully there are plans in place for this situation.

Got everything crossed for success for you! And hopefully like say, you will both stay healthy and well! 🧡

Oh heck! I hope you get a negative PCR. The rules are if you continue to test negative on lateral flow then you can carry on without isolating (as long as you’re vaccinated - if not you will have to isolate too). If you have the vac and you are clear then definitely continue. If you’re positive or haven’t been vaccinated then sadly you’ll have to wait until your next cycle. You shouldn’t lose all the money though. Only the meds and tests you’ve had so far will need to be paid for again. I would hope even privately that you still get the bits after that you’ve paid for that you haven’t had yet.

Thank you for your reply ladies. I have tested positive this morning on a lateral flow. We are still waiting for the pcr results.

I’ve rang and spoken to the clinic and basically if the pcr is positive then I need to stop all treatment. I then need to ring the admin team to book back in but the wait lists are so long it will be March/April before I can try again. Seems so far away already xx

So sorry to hear it, this is so hard and so unfair but there is a reason for everything and I hope it goes well in March/April xxx

Hi! I’ve also had to move my cycle due to Covid. It was supposed to be happening in January but it will be February or March now. Anyway, just wanted to say I empathise with how much it sucks. Infertility is hard enough without a pandemic in the mix. However, the one good thing is you will go into your next cycle with decent antibodies, and hopefully your body will have had a chance to recover by then. Hope you guys aren’t too sick. Lots of vitamins c and d!! Xxx
