Getting intimiate when on vaginal pessaries?!

Something that sounds weird but could be a common concern - how do you get intimate i.e. foreplay and sex when you're also using vaginal pessaries? I mean it's all chalky and smells like clay so any sort of intimate stuff seems odd, it's gotta smell, feel and taste weird 🙄😥😧

It feels drier so can we use natural lubes such as Wylde? We still have some conceive plus lube etc but guessing they'd change what the pessaries are doing. Obviously using condoms anyway.

Clinic has said no baths, nothing about sex and nothing in my info pack.

I've just started on Uterogestan 3 times a day. The sex is an important part of us just feeling connected.

Help!

You put them in your bum. Sorry, there is no cute way of saying this. 😅 There is medical research which suggests that the rate of absorption is the same. Or maybe just on the days you're doing it. It involves a bit of planning I realise but I can't think of another way to get around the mighty mess of pessaries.. and if you get pregnant you'll be on them for 12 weeks+ so it's a long haul. Enjoy 😉

Hey. I know that cyclogest can be used rectally (that has been my preferred option for years now as although it felt slightly odd at first I soon realised it was tonnes easier and no mess!), however I’m not sure that the uterogestan ones can. When I moved to a different clinic I was prescribed those and told they were different (softer casing) and could only be used vaginally. So since then I’ve asked for cyclogest. I could be wrong but maybe worth just checking first xxx

Perhaps they can change the pessaries if everything goes okay? so for the 12 weeks or so after putting it back in?

Excellent point! I assumed they were all the same... OP, def check! It has to be said that the gold standard for progesterone absorption are actually injections though, with intramuscular being better than sub cutaneous but not all clinics include it in treatment. I had subcutaneous as well as pessaries after embryo transfer and for subsequent 12 weeks.

I didn't know that, is it worth asking the clinic if I can do that?!

All the chalky stuff up my vagina seems to stay there 😯

Yes I reckon worth just checking with your clinic. If they say it’s ok then I’d say the back door is definitely less messy! xx

Hi. It might be worth discussing other forms of progesterone with your clinic eg injections or perhaps doing a combination

I'm on utrogestan pessaries too and lubion subcutaneous injection. As for suggestion to fo that rectally I know the ones that I have are only for vaginally use. The packaging for the pessaries says you need to wait 30 mins after inserting it to have sex but I do try and time it a little so it's been a few hours since I put it in before we do anything lol. TMI however my partner hasn't got any of the pessary stuff on him afterwards its not been much of an issue for us, you should be ok. If he did get any of him however I know he wouldn't mind as he knows how important the medication is for our baby which will be the same for your partner. Only a few more weeks until I'm 12 weeks and then can stop taking them thankfully I do feel your pain they are not nice! Xx
