The nurse prescribed me progesterone pessaries for a suspected short luteal phase and told me to take them for 2 weeks and then do a pregnancy test. Ever the pessimist, i’m convinced im not pregnant again 🙁 (due to take test this Sunday) any idea how long from when I stop my pessaries to when I will actually have a period?

Hi can I ask how you go about being prescribed these? Is it through a fertility clinic and have you had blood tests to confirm hormone imbalance? I ask as It’s something I’d like to try as I often get spotting from day 10 but the gp has fobbed me off. I’ve had 1 ivf cycle (bfn) and i started spotting while using the pessaries from day 11 but af only came on day 15 which was the day after I stopped taking them. Hope they work for you x
I paid for scans to see if i was ovulating at a private clinic. I have a 30 day cycle to the dot but all my ovulation tests were negative. GP wouldnt investigate until we had been trying for 18months so I paid for a private follicle tracking scan. Turns out I did ovulate on day 20/21 which the nurse said wasnt long enough for an embryo to implant and needed to be 14 days between ovulation and period so they did a private prescription for the pessaries. Cost me a fortune. I keep praying it will be worth it. Wishing you lots of luck xx
Thanks for letting me know. Did you do follicle scan at a fertility clinic? There are only 3 ivf clinics in Glasgow & not sure if they offer that kind of service, get the impression they are all in for the procedure rather than testing & medicating alone , I could be wrong though. How much was the prescription if you don’t mind? I hope they work for you, did for Jackie 84 if you look for her posts on here x
It was at a small independent clinic that specialises in fertility and early scans, its ran by 2 consultant fertility nurses who are also able to prescribe, so I was really lucky. I rang up to book a scan to see if I was ovulating, they saw me the next day then ‘tracked my follicle’ in a further 3 scans. I paid £35 for the private prescription and about £46 for the pessaries. So £81 in total. She did prescribe me 3 months worth incase I am pregnant, so not too bad I suppose.
Thanks I will do. I just can’t see myself being lucky enough to ever have a baby after nothing but disappointment so far ☹️

I’d go through your fertility specialist; GPS aren’t very clues up with lady issues or fertility their knowledge is limited. Phone the secretary 😊
I have been spotting lots between ovulation and period and worry this will impact my fertility; I’ve contacted my fertility specialist secretary. I do have endometriosis but had most of it removed and it’s only on my bowel now so can’t understand why it could cause that to happen. Mine also only happens when I’m TTC which is annoying 🤦🏽♀️

Just out of interest how did you get diagnosed with endometriosis? I suspect I may have it myself, and have a family history of it. I think that might be why we’re struggling to get pregnant x

I don’t have a fertility specialist as such I think I have been ‘discharged’ twice now (as in they’ve both said all looks normal , good luck & bye) so will probably be another visit to the gp, sigh! Or Do you think I could get back in touch with one of them if I can find the secretary’s number? Things have changed in that my spotting is getting more frequent & at funny times in cycle , it used to be just before af and only sometimes. I saw ur other post about spotting, have you reached test day yet this month? If not fingers crossed for you! I sometimes wonder if the spotting could be a sign of a fertilisation but failed implantation though think that’s just my own wee theory xx
Thank you! My period arrived yesterday. Boo! I did expect it. It’s funny you should say that because I lost a pregnancy last year at the second implantation stage; I’d done a test on period due date and the bleeding started the next day if I hadn’t tested so soon I wouldn’t have known/had proof.i generally believe I have an issue with implantation; I’ve always suspected that was the issue. My fertility specialist will either call me or write to me over the spotting ; he’s not at my clinic until Thursday. He always gets in touch soon when I have worries 🤪
Are you discharged; or did the consultant say try and come back ? Because my current fertility would tell us to keep trying especially after he and then his colleague “fixed” my endo. I won’t actually have an appointment with my fertility specialist till I’ve had surgery with the endometriosis specialist he referred me. By the way all our tests looked normal well till I had a lap n dye!
My ex fertility specialist was also very dismissive and just couldn’t be bothered to run additional tests; it was easier to just discharge us and recommend his private clinic he was such a horrible doctor I couldn’t get on with with him 😡 As my gynae symptoms which mainly included bleeding between my periods were persistent I was referred to a general gynaecologist; I had a hysteroscopy but all clear and it continued so the general gynaecologist referred me to his colleague a fertility specialist and my fertility specialist is brilliant so pro active 😊 the hospital switch board should be to put you through ( they should know the ext no!) if you have no joy with the secretary definitely go to a GP and write all your symptoms down; bleeding between cycles shouldn’t be ignored by a any doctor. Hopefully they’ll refer you to a gynaecologist 😘 someone has to do something they cannot leave you like that. 😡

Hi Jess! Sorry that af arrived this month for you but I guess you can count it as only month one of this new endo -free period so don’t be disheartened! Ok I will do that try to find the number & ask if they will see me or at least answer my questions. The spotting tends not to have any other symptoms at all and it’s pretty light. This month it happened a few days after af), then a few days after positive opk then a few days later again). The post af one was the ‘heaviest ‘in that it wasn’t really mixed with clear discharge and was pink , sorry tmi! I started dhea this month so guess that could be fiddling with my hormones. I’m so glad you’ve found a great specialist did they get back to you ? Xx
The only way to be diagnosed for endometriosis is by having a laparoscopy.
I had a long wait till I got diagnosed with endometriosis; I had 5 years and 10 months of “unexplained infertility “ and prior to being referred to another fertility I’d also been under a general gynaecologist for abnormalities in my cycles which were also “unexplained “ for 3 years. It was luck really I’d been on clomid my fertility specialist originally thought my cycle problems were caused by PCO and on my 4 th round it made my endometriosis grow and caused me huge chronic pain in my lower left side. It confused the medics as I had gynae and bowel issues!!! 😆 I was offered to chose between having a HSG, lap n dye and checking for and treating endometriosis, or private IVF and I chose the lap best decision I made! We got an explanation for the infertility. 😊
Personally I think it should be part of standard fertility tests. It’s awful women have to suffer so much before getting a diagnosis so wrong. xoxo
Oh wow! So prior to this you had none of the ‘typical’ endo symptoms?
I had an ectropian cauterised on my cervix last year and a hysteroscopy and all looked fine inside .. had unexplained pain and bleeding for a while and he said he couldnt exclude endometriosis without a laparoscopy. I said id rather start trying then go from there. We’ve since not been able to get pregnant and hes discharged me so got to go through the whole process again. I get no symptoms now though, in fact, i dont get any pain at all during my period! Its all so odd. I just want some answers xx
Unfortunately many symptoms can mimic many other conditions hence it takes a longtime to receive a diagnosis of endometriosis 🤦🏽♀️
I had all the classic symptoms that you can think of ; bleeding between periods, cramping between cycles, horrific periods ; I ended up in hospital with period pain on a few occasions, had anemia from lack of iron due to heavy periods, severe pain during pelvic examinations, bowel issues on my period 🙈
It wasn’t till I had chronic pelvic pain on my lower left side ( I always had period pain that side ; used to think it was ovary pain 🤦🏽♀️) and a good consultant who listened to me if it wasn’t for him I’d still be undiagnosed he was the only supportive medic I had the GPS didn’t do much 🙈
it has got worse since as it re grew apparently I’m prone & more was there back ( after my miscarriage. ) now I’m under a a endometriosis specialist too for another lap!
I had a clear hysteroscopy 2 years prior to the lap; and during my second lap it was all clear! Everything was in the uterus was normal.Because my endo is in POD and rectum.
I feel ruling endo out is always worth doing. It is impossible to diagnose without a laparoscopy. As there is a family history with endo I’d push for a lap it’s not that bad promise 😊
I know I get your frustration I was also very frustrated with not clear answers to our infertility; sometimes it’s better to know what is causing it and at least the medics will be able to know what they are dealing with.
I’m sorry you got discharged been there with our first fertility specialist who was dismissive of my gynae issues I presented so much so I ended up under a general gynaecologist! But he referred me to my fertility specialist whose been gamazing 😁
