Hi there, Wondering if anyone can share their knowledge or experience please. I’m 9 weeks 5 days and last week had very very mild tummy cramping. Also very very mild back ache. Not terrible at all. Didn’t even take paracetamol. My midwife says this is not unusual and uterus stretching. Went for a scan yesterday morning just to be sure, all great there saw heartbeat snd baby moving. This morning I have had the tiniest bit of brown discharge mixed in with a progesterone pessary.. Nothing again since. I have tried to text midwife but heard nothing back, I’m seeing her tomorrow anyway but don’t know if I should be doing more like calling the surgery or 111.I don’t want to cause any trouble if it’s deemed normal. It’s my first pregnancy so I have no idea what’s going on and it’s scary. From seeing everything perfect yesterday i am wondering if I should be concerned or am I over worrying. I have read that pessaries can aggravate the cervix so wondering if it’s that?

Thanks so much xx

I started brown spotting the day of my viability scan. I mentioned it at my clinic when I went for the scan, like you it was brown discharge and a small amount. I was asked about the flow and colour. Their theory was it was most likely a blood vessell in the cervix. They could see there was no bleeding in the womb and were not concerned at all. If you had a scan yesterday they would have seen if you had blood in the womb.

I have had further brown spotting on a couple of other occasions since the viability scan which I mentioned to the midwife last week when i was 8 weeks. She was not worried at all. I was told if it got heavy to go to the hospital. I would definitely mention it to your midwife tomorrow. Try not to worry, I know its not easy when you see blood xx

Thank you so so much for responding. I appreciate it so much and I think in my heart I know it’s ok. Think I would of panicked more if I never saw all ok yesterday. Pregnancy is the toughest thing ever with one thing or another. Thanks so much again! Xxxxx

Brown spotting is very common in early pregnancy and can be anything from the pessaries irritating the cervix through to the uterus stretching. They generally say not to worry about contacting anyone unless you have strong cramps and red bleeding. If you are seeing the midwife tomorrow I personally don't think you need to contact anyone else today. Congrats on your pregnancy x

Thank you daisy for getting back to me and for the reassurance. I will mention it tomorrow. You see blood and you panic straight away. I struggle to talk myself round hence coming on here for you lovely ladies to talk me round. Thanks for being so kind and responding, it helps so much xxx

Hi lovely,

I had red spotting exactly at the same point as you. Went in for a scan, they didn't see any blood in my uterus, indeed it was the cervix due to a benign condition called ectropion: the blood vessels down there become quite fragile, it can happen with the pregnancy hormones.

I did spot every now and then over the whole pregnancy, specially after sex or after, ehm, a problematic number 2 💩 my daughter is now 2yo, so don't panic ❤️ I know it's easy to say! Good luck with your journey 🍀🍀🍀

I had this around 7 weeks and clinic were not concerned at all. Brown blood is old blood, said it could be pessaries irritating the cervix. I went on to have a healthy pregnancy without any major issues. I think given you had a scan yesterday, you don’t need to worry. If the cramps get worse or you have any red blood then contact midwife/clinic. I hope the rest of your pregnancy progresses well 😊

Hello! I am in the same position now, 9w 4d pregnant and I’m experiencing brown/light brown discharge. Also mild cramps and back pain.

I know it might not be anything to worry about, but still it’s kind of uncomfortable state.

Everything was fine with you at the end? 😊

Hi there! Yes everything was ok!!i now have a beautiful 14 week little boy! It’s scary at the time but no one was overly concerned when I got checked out as I think it is quite common. I think it was the pessary irritating my cervix! Xx

Ah so beautiful!! Congratulations 🥳❤️ I’m glad to hear that then, I also think it’s not a problem, I got checked just the day before and everything was good.I feel in general kind of sore around the area so I think I’m just irritated as well from the progesterone pessary.

Let’s see, now the discharge is gone after 2 days, I am coming back to normal 🙂

All the best for you and your family!

Hi yes I had this at 11 weeks I had the brown spotting and this was actually due to a bladder infection (had cramping on and off on the sides of tummy like a tightening sensation and felt a bit poorly) definitely get checked out xx the spotting was my cervix being sore and the pessary knocked against it. I also felt sore ‘down there’.
