Hi lovelies, we have been incredibly lucky so far and have graduated from the IVF clinic, I have been taking baby aspirin off my own back and the clinic want me to stop (when I asked before my FET they couldn't advise me either way on it). If you have taken it how did you go about weaning yourself off and also when did you stop it? love to you all xx
Stopping baby aspirin: Hi lovelies, we... - Fertility Network UK
Stopping baby aspirin
Hello lovely, congratulations on your graduation 🥰I took 75mg aspirin throughout my 2ww and carried on until 12 weeks as per my fertility clinic - however my hospital consultant said that she would be happy for me to carry on taking it throughout as it can help prevent pre-eclampsia and help the blood flow through the placenta. So I'm just carrying on. xx
Hey thanks Milbanks 🧡 did you have clotting issues or anything that helped you to decide to take it in the first place? Stupid question coming up, do you see a hospital consultant at your first scan once you graduate or are you getting special care? x
My clinic just recommend it for everyone and every transfer - I think it's fairly low risk. It also supposedly helps with thickening the uterus lining by increasing blood flow too... I don't have any known clotting issues. So I think it's slightly different for everyone, but we're actually able to go privately for maternity care (thank you work healthcare insurance!!) so I went for a scan at 11 weeks (for reassurance) and saw the consultant straight after to talk through everything and also did about 1000 blood tests...
Because it's an IVF pregnancy it is consultant led - rather than midwife led - which could be the same with the NHS too? Sorry not much help really! xx
Hi try. Often ladies carry on with low dose soluble aspirin until 12 weeks of pregnancy to ensure good blood circulation to the womb and the lining. Also can help to prevent any clot formation too. Many ladies eat pineapple core too, which apparently has the same effect. IVF patients are often consultant lead, but not always at the early stages of pregnancy. you will be closely watched whoever looks after you. Hope all goes as it should. Diane
Sorry to butt in. I don’t know anything about the aspirin but I graduated from my clinic last week and had a booking in appointment with my midwife funnily enough the next day. She said I would be consultant led as it’s an ivf pregnancy and maybe also because im 38 I think. I don’t know if that’s the same across the board. ♥️Xxx
I had exactly the same question! I asked my clinic consultant about taking aspirin for my FET in August and he said he wouldn't prescribe it without me having any kind of blood disorder (and even then he said they would use something different) but that also it wouldn't cause any harm so if it made me feel more reassured, he had no issue with me taking it. That FET worked after two chemicals so I am reluctant to change anything at all, and have just stuck with it. I seems a lot of women get put on it from 12 weeks if they're increased risk for certain things so who knows if I will be told to stop or not. I haven't had my first NHS midwife appointment yet but I was told last week I would be under consultant care as standard for IVF pregnancies.
I was told to start taking it at 12 weeks as I am 40; midwife said anyone over 35 is advised to take it to reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia (I checked NICE guidelines and they say 40 but I am sure she said 35: nice.org.uk/guidance/ng133/.... xx
thanks MrsOJ and Purpledoggy 🧡 it's interesting what you both say, I had a read earlier and yeah I feel I should carry on, I will be 40 next month and have had high BP in the past (associated with the contraceptive pill so now resolved, but think it runs in the family....) will carry on until consultant tells me to stop xx
I’ve been taken it from when I started stims and will continue until I’m 34 weeks pregnant alongside the clexane… I do have blood clotting markers however so that may be why? Xx
I am 37 years old and 25 weeks 5days pregnant with twins. I was told my obstetrician to take 150mg of aspirin from 12 weeks to delivery, due to increased risk of blood clots as a result of the IVF, my age and multiple pregnancy.I was suffering from terrible migraines in the first trimester. The low dose aspirin has really helped, I no longer have the migraines.
I hope that this helps X.
Hey try2020, because of my age (39) and because I got pregnant through ivf my Dr said I was in a higher risk category for pre-eclampsia so to be cautious I’m on 150mg aspirin every day until week 35. I hate taking meds but pre-eclampsia is worse so I let it go. Good luck. It really is different for different people.
Hi Bear, that's really interesting because I will be 40 next month, it's an IVF pregnancy and I have had hypertension in the past....I didn't even speak to a doctor so I am going to keep taking it (baby is fine) until I get to have a proper conversation with a doc about it, best of luck 🧡🤞 xx
If I were in your shoes I would do the same to be honest. Until you see what your Dr says. When my Dr suggested I take aspirin of course I was mortified but when I read up about the reasons I felt lucky she insisted. I’ve been taking it from week 13. Best of luck to you too btw. But you’re doing a great job so far. Putting your baby number one. It’s tough but being vigilant is good.
thanks hon, it is forums like this though that help give me the guts to do what I think is best 🧡 (with as much medical info as possible of course!) what's mildly irritating is the mixed info you can sometimes get from the clinic....but they are flipping angels for getting me to this point 😍 thanks again xx
Heya. I took it till 12 weeks as per my IVF nurse, , but later on a consultant told me she would have been happy for me to continue , but now that I’ve stopped there’s no need to start again 🤷🏼♀️ I had a very minor blood flow issue (which only got found out when pregnant, not during IVF) but had a healthy pregnancy with no issues x
As someone who had severe preeclampsia in her first pregnancy. I was 31. Healthy, no history of blood issues, I will say drink those aspirin like your life depend on it. There is no harm to baby or you by you taking them but you might be at risk for blood clot issues if you don’t take them. Now my 2nd successful transfer i will be taking it through my pregnancy. If it won’t hurt to stay on them then please stay on them
Hi there, I took baby aspirin with my successful first transfer, (I have a two year old) I remember stressing when to come of it. I think it was around 8 weeks but I would gradually come of it like take one every other day then cut them in half, that what I would do.
I’ve just recently had my second transfer (frozen) which I didn’t take baby aspirin and it was a BFN so my third is coming up so I’m definitely going to take baby aspirin.
the consultants at my hospital put you on aspirin for an ivf pregnancy from week12 - 36 as standard . With my daughter three years ago I was on 75mg but now they recommend 150mg so I will take that until I get to 36weeks . They said there are also studies showing that it is best to take it at night just for bed.
