Thoughts on Baby Aspirin with FET..

Hello everyone,

Gearing up for my 3rd transfer next month and wondered what people’s thoughts are on baby aspirin? I’ve read some really positive stories so have been toying with whether or not I try it this cycle.. I have no known blood clotting condition but do have a unicornuate uterus and have read that possible miscarriage reasons could be due to not enough blood getting to the uterus as it’s small (unicornuate uterus basically means I only have a half sized uterus) and some stories I have read have suggested taking an aspirin to promote blood flow.. it’s not within my protocol but when I asked my Dr, he said that there is no scientific evidence that it does work but if I wanted too, it would do no harm.. Just not sure what to do?

So far had 1 fresh ending in BFN and one FET ending in MMC at 7+4 days.. Just really want this one to work!! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, when I first started Ivf my clinic didn’t suggest aspirin but for my last 2 cycles they told me to take it - sadly my last fresh cycle ended in a mmc but I’m currently 11 weeks pregnant from a natural FET. I think it’s definitely worth trying if you haven’t before. Good luck x

Thank you, I started talking it on CD1 and my consultant said I can continue to take it as it won’t do the baby any harm x

Hi,

I can’t tell you about success (yet) but would just like to tell you that although I also have no known coagulation issue my clinic included aspirin on my protocol. In the studies I read the benefits were considerably higher than the risks, sono am quit happy that I am taking it

I started taking the month before IVF as my last try naturally. For my fresh cycle they asked me to start from day one (I was already on it) till 2 days before EC. Then restart on the day after EC forwards. This is due to risk of bleeding with the procedure.

For the FET they told me to start from day 1 forwards

I have been taking it for this cycle. Yet to be seen whether it helps but my last fet ended in mmc. No clotting issues here either but anything is worth trying right? And my doctor said they are happy either way. Good luck xx

Can I ask when you started to take it? The other ladies on here have said day 1, I am day 6 so am thinking to start soon.. I read other ladies taking it at varying points between day one to 2-3 days before transfer.. xx

Hi hun.

So sorry for your loss, I had a loss too at 4.5 weeks not easy. 😢

I haven’t had IVF- I have had a few surgeries to treat my endometriosis. The last one was done by an endo surgeon.

I did a round of clomid after my surgery & took a low dose aspirin (the whole cycle) I wanted to give us the best chance. I have raised nk cells & endo but my fertility doctor would only allow me to take prednisone whilst pregnant. I took the low dose aspirin to safeguard anything. I can’t say which was the biggest factor in getting my positive test( I’m 8 weeks tomorrow) -the surgery which removed all endo, the clomid that boosted things or the low dose aspirin. I definitely believe the aspirin played an important role! I didn’t check with my fertility doctor I just felt it worth trying.

I feel so much better about taking it now as my Drs were ok but kept saying it wouldn’t make a difference either way so I almost feel bad for questioning their judgement! Going to start today.. xx

I do have a blood clotting disorder and I’m advised to take aspirin (along with clexane) but only to take the aspirin after transfer not before. If your doctor says it won’t hurt then good. Tommy’s (miscarriage charity research) did say to me that it shows no difference in positive outcomes in ladies who don’t have known issues and that even if they do, the 6 week mark is a good place to start taking it xx
