I had my appointment yesterday to have a mock embryo transfer I haven’t started any medication yet.
I finished my last period 8 days ago whilst scanning my ovaries the nurse counted 16 follicles on one ovary and 24 on the other she said everything is fine all ok looks good however I’ve since seen online and it says this would be too high.
My blood tests have previously all came back ok.
I’m now panicking, I have historically been diagnosed with PCOS however have since been told it was miss diagnosed and I don’t meat the PCOS criteria.
Can anyone share some knowledge around this.
Thank you xx

I don’t have any personal experience with this but my friend recently had her first egg collection and they retrieved 36 eggs. She definitely doesn’t have PCOS so I don’t think a high number of follicles always means that xxx
You can have polycystic ovaries (PCO) - which it sounds like you might have - without having PCOS, so I wouldn’t panic.
However, PCOS is a tricky diagnosis because there’s no hard and fast rule for diagnosing it. Doctors basically look at several different test results and then make a judgement call on whether or not you have it. If your periods are regular though, your hormone levels are all in a normal range and your LH and FSH numbers are about in a 1:1 ratio, you’re probably good to go.
How old are you? If you're 25 it's to be expected, if 40 then a lot less common. I had 20 follicles collected in my last round and I'm 38 with an amh of 9 just to give you an idea.
If you have more 12 or more follicles with no meds then it’s likely polycystic ovaries, if you do not meet the other criteria like insulin resistance then it’s not PCOS…
