Is Menopur/ Gonal F 600 units safe?

Hi All,

Is anyone taking high dose of Menopur ? I have few follicules per cycle, from 6 to 12, the follicules are growing pretty quickly but at the end, we only collect 4 eggs with few or none of good qualities. I am wondering if a dose of 60 units of Menopur is really necessary and not affecting the egg quality?

Thank you for your reply Janet I did ask the doctor about reducing the high dose of medication to get maybe less eggs but of better quality, but he told me that this was not an accurate information.

I am still really curious to see if other ladies had a dose of 600iu as it is not common.

As far as I know, 450 Menopur is the max dose.

There are other stimulation drugs that you may get on better with eg Gonal F or Pergoveris

Or a change in protocol. Or even double trigger.

Your clinic should advise.

We did get a total of 4 good embryos at the beginning, over 2 cycles ( 1 failed fresh cycle - and 3 other embryos are now frozen for the future). Due to my age, we need to bank more embryos. However, after the last 3 cycles cancelled due to eggs of poor quality and reading from different sources, it seems that the majority of doctors think that after 40, a gentle protocol is more appropriate. Moreover, some doctors (especially in Europe) are making a relation between high dose of medication and poor egg quality. I trust my doctor but as you mention, 450iu is generally the maximum dose. It seems that nobody is using 600iu.

Thank you for your advice. It is interesting that you are mentioning about double the trigger shot. I planned to talk to the nurse about having a blood test the next morning after the trigger shot to check the HCG level in my blood.

I’ve taken max dose of 150 menopause and 450 of follistim. I think too much menopur can have too much LH that can be harmful

I tend to agree with you simply because if the maximum dose advised by the fabricant is 450iu for Menopur, why are we using 600iu and for several cycle? Hence, my concern.
