Hi , all , I’m just a little confused. We had our last scan and blood tests today, my period is due in about 2 weeks ( we’re starting IVF this cycle ) but I still haven’t got a clue what meds I’m going to be on, how to do injections, when are my future scans or appointments ? And I’ve only got 2 weeks left , no meds no nothing 🤷🏼‍♀️ Is that normal and I just wait for them to get in touch or should I get in touch with them ? Sorry , just excited and worried 🙈

Hi! Definitely call your clinic and speak with a nurse to understand the plan set out for you.

From my experience (I’m just starting my 2nd stimulation today), I had to call the nurse on Day 1 of my period and then they see you for a scan a few days later and make the call as to when you start your meds (and that’s when I got my prescription for the drugs and they made sure I knew how to do injections). So if your period is not due for another 2 weeks, then I suspect you have some time to go.

Again, call your contact tomorrow to confirm the plan.

I’ve found that you have to advocate for yourself big time - so if you have a question, make sure you ask and don’t stop until you are satisfied that you have your answer and that you understand. Hope that helps 😊 Good luck ✨

Hi there, I agree with the other post, call your clinic to understand your timelines ie when your meds will come and when you will be taught how to inject. From my experience clinics work diffusion clarifying what happens next is important.

I have been with 2 clinics and both used a private company for the meds they sent into prescription in advance and the company called me for payment and sent the meds in advance. I am guessing it will be different for a NHS funded cycle.

All the best with your journey 🙏🏾

Morning, I am NHS and agree with the above. I rang with day one then they give you a scan date and an anticipated treatment plan, the rest of the dates get confirmed once you have had the scan. The meds get delivered to you where I am so assume it would be the same for you and it is normally really quick think I got them next day. Good luck xx

Hi , thank you so much for the reply❤️ When exactly do you pay for the meds and when do you inform them of any extras ? xx

in reply to Amiikikii

We are NHS funded but we get our treatment from a private clinic the meds for egg collection were sent out to me and I don’t think we paid for them but if we did it was only the prescription cost. We get invoiced by the clinic after the meds are sent so we just pay them. We have had extras, we were offered PGTA ahead of our egg collection and opted to go for it and we paid the clinic direct for that. I’ve needed extra meds for along the way for one thing and another so I’ve either paid for an extra meds from the clinic or got a prescription and paid at a pharmacy depending if they are available under out treatment plan or private. We got offered Emma/Alice/Era after our egg collection as we had a freeze all for the PGTA and again paid our clinic direct for that. But I guess if your an NHS only clinic you might not get offered the extras xx

They should send a prescription to your local pharmacy and you should collect the medication. You need to call the hospital on day 1 of your period and they will arrange a first scan. They will show you then how to do the injection and give you the schedule for future scans etc. I suggest if you can bring your partner with you as sometimes preparation for the injections can be quite a process so better to have 4 eyes instead of 2! This is what they have done with me and it all went smoothly! Give them a call today to find out how to collect your medicines. Wishing you all the best on this cycle! 🌷

PS We were NHS funded and did not have to pay a penny. Not even for the medications!

No, if you are funded you don’t pay meds! Not sure if on NHS they do “extras”, have you already discussed this? They told me no for PGS testing x

We’re NHS funded and paid about £50 ish for the medication prescription, so nothing in the scale of things! Then we’ve paid for additional prescriptions for extra progesterone, different trigger etc at the usual prescription rate of £10 a go since xxx

Oh really? When i asked the hospital they told me No because I’m NHS funded 🤷🏻‍♀️ I thought it was like this everywhere but it must vary then! xxx

Yea we are NHS funded and we had to pay the basic prescription cost each time we started a new cycle of IUI. We just didn't have to pay for the refills if we needed more during that cycle. I might question whether the hospital pharmacy should have actually being charging us as I just assumed that was standard!

That’s very interesting. I know that the funding rules are not the same everywhere, in some places they offer more funded cycles, in other less. I did not have to pay for anything and I collected the stims meds from my local Boots. Other meds like the trigger was given to me by the nurser. I just assumed this applied to everyone but clearly I’m wrong! Anyway it will be a small price to pay compared to doing the treatment at a private clinic so it’s acceptable!

Oh yea definitely much cheaper then if the meds were private/self funded! I just never questioned it so don't know if they should have been charging us or not.
