Fertility Clinic Cornwall?

Hi all,

I’m supposed to be visiting Cornwall next week, staying in Bodmin near Padstow and would really love to go as I really feel like me and hubby need a break. I’ve just got my BFP and my clinic monitor me every other day for a couple weeks which is into next week… I’d need blood tests in the morning Thursday and Saturday.

Does anyone attend a fertility clinic in that area or know of any that I could reach out to to see if they’ve kindly do my blood tests for me?

I researched two that are both 40 minute drive from the location (Wheal Unity Clinic and CCRM) so I’m wondering if there’s anything closer?

This pregnancy is far more important so if we need to cancel then I will, just trying our luck to see if we can make it work… xx

Gosh that is a challenge. Funnily enough we are off to Cornwall next week too and that's where I will be doing my test which will just be a BFP. My clinic aren't monitoring me as closely though. Ive just got extra meds to take with me in case I get a BFP and can keep going until I'm back.

I hope you find what you are looking for. Can your clinic make any recommendations?

Ah lovely, I’ve never been so I’ve been really looking forward to the break as it’s our wedding anniversary and my husbands birthday! It’s a shame to cancel when my blood tests are 7.30am in the morning across two days. They couldn’t recommend but they said it’s fine to find a clinic who would take the tests. I wonder if a private doctors surgery could rush them through for me?! Hmm.

Sending you so much luck for your BFP xxx

Lovely! I am down there too soon! I actually live in Devon and had to, for my treatment, travel to Bristol (and even that was very amateur). They didn't do blood tests at any point in my treatment or after getting my positive (even that was only via pregnancy test)... after my positive they stopped my meds and that was that - at 6 weeks I was discharged. There is the NHS fertility clinic in Exeter but that's all I know about other than Bristol but it is a lot more backwards down here! Could you get a private dr to instead? I would say, the weather is going to be amazing and you relaxing and spreading time with your husband by the sea will do you more help than waiting for a blood test elsewhere... you relaxing will help baba grow! (That's just my view!) go! You have had a tough year!

P.s - 40 mins is close for down here - I don't think you will get closer unless a private dr does it. I travelled 1.5 hrs for my appointments 😂

My geography is terrible so I’m not sure on distance to Exeter!? My clinic monitor bloods every other day for two+ weeks following a positive test which is so reassuring but demanding too. I don’t want to risk going away if I can’t get the tests done but I also really feel like we’d benefit from this little break! I was thinking maybe a private doctors surgery would do the bloods for me and rush them through… I’ll explore today! Xx

Exeter (where I live) is about 1hr 15 from there so you could either do it to or from but they are useless at doing it at any point down here.I totally understand the reassurance that is needed - what I did down here is get a scan privately from 6 weeks (I have probably had about 15!) - they have some good clinics down here for that x

Thank you, I’ll look into that. This clinic scans me every week from week 6-11 which is very reassuring. So nervous for the first scan 🙈 praying it’s all okay. Xx

I am sure it will be ok... you are in the right hands! They sound incredible- I didn't have any of this! 😬🤷‍♀️😌 x

I think you will struggle unfortunately as the hospitals in Cornwall are few and far between and I don’t think they have any private maternity clinics. Bristol is going to be your best bet?Is it only for hcg levels? Just because they can’t really tell you how a pregnancy is progressing or

Not? And for the sake of relaxing and having a much needed break I would be inclined to just defer them to the following week?

It’s HCG and progesterone levels, they like to check them every other day. I’m nervous that if I don’t do it, I’m tempting fate and something will go wrong - I know that’s irrational, but after everything to get this far, I don’t want to mess it up. We’ve thought about cutting the trip short we just miss one blood test too. I know most clinics don’t repeat HCG as frequently but I feel like I’m in a good position as so far, this clinic has got me further than the last! Xx

Hi lovely, huge congrats on your bfp!

Ultrasound Direct has a clinic in Plymouth which is about 50 minutes away and they do private blood tests, though they don't really advertise it on their website. If you ring customer service and tell them which tests you need and on what dates, they should be able to tell you if they have any appointments available. Good luck! xx

Thank you! I got in touch with a hospital who said they could do it with a referral from my clinic. But as soon as I got it all sorted, I then got really anxious about leaving London so I think we are going to cancel our trip and stay in London to be near the clinic just incase. Anxiety is already setting in!! Xx

Thank you! I’ve actually cancelled the trip … I’m feeling too anxious to leave London at the moment. Rebooked for September ☺️ Xx

Hi, I personally would go to Cornwall and get bloods done on my return. I don’t believe that it is absolutely essential to test every two days. What is their reason for doing this?

You have your BFP now, they should cut you some slack re. taking bloods. You would get the break you and your husband so badly deserve. It’d be a no brainer for me.

Good luck x

It’s to monitor the rise in HCG and progesterone plus my thyroid so if anything changes, they can adapt my meds. We’ve delayed Cornwall to September, apparently it’s super busy there anyway right now and where we were going there’s been a few places that have had to close due to Covid so I don’t want to take any risks especially on whilst on steroids. My anxiety is already super high with this pregnancy. We’ve booked a few nice things to do at home incl. a picnic in the park we got engaged and our favourite restaurants to celebrate our anniversary and birthday ☺️ Xx
