Will private transfer impact remaining embryos obtained under NHS funding

Hi all,

Not sure if this is a silly question & know it will probably vary between healthboard.

We currently are awaiting our nxt FET under NHS funding & in the meantime I am looking into getting further investigations done privately.

I’ve spoken to a couple of clinics & think I was being abit naive thinking I could get stand alone tests.

It seems that, test dependant, I need to do a full treatment with them. We can transfer one of our embryos instead of starting from scratch but my question is, if we do this, will it some how void our ability to have our further FET (have a few Frosties) under our original nhs funded treatment?

Hope that makes sense xx

Hi lovely, unfortunately I think the answer is yes. I asked our consultant at the NHS clinic the same question and he said if we go privately to not mention a word to the NHS… as it will void any remaining treatment. We wanted to PGS test and the NHS hospital we were at didn’t do that, so we did a cycle then transferred our frosties to a private clinic to have them tested. Xx

Hey, thanks so much. Really glad I asked the question now…that could’ve been a disaster! 😱

I did mention to them we were looking into other tests but think I’ll leave it there for now

Will probably wait until we are on our last couple of Frosties & then make the move, at least they’re not ageing…like me!

It’s just going to be hard going through another transfer knowing it’s likely it will fail.

Thanks again, hope you’re doing ok xx

No worries! I think if your NHS clinic doesn’t provide certain tests then you would be within your right to go elsewhere, but I would ask them before going ahead…. Just pose it as hypothetical. As I say, you can move your embryos over to a private clinic if you want to get some tests done…

I’m good thank you! Just prepping myself xxx

It’s so hard to know what to do for the best. As we’ve still got a few embryos don’t want 2 transfer 1 & then if it doesn’t work we have find the money 2 do the rest privately.

When you got the NK cell test, was that part of a treatment plan or stand alone? Sorry if that’s 2 nosey.

Wishing u so much luck! 🥰🤞xx

Not at all 😬It was something that I researched and asked about - but essentially yes, it was probably easier because I was already a patient. You can go to a specialist for immunology but you’d still need a consult, tests and treatment, so actually it’s probably better to sign up to a new clinic if you are thinking of other treatment too! Hi, it didn’t impact it for us...we transferred some of our embryos to private clinic as waiting list on nhs was long and we wanted to start ASAP...we had a treatment with private clinic in April and have just had another FET this week with private clinic and yesterday I got letter from nhs to say we r now top of list..I rang them and said I was on 2 week wait and they said just to let them know at the end of the 2 weeks if I want an app xx

Hi, thanks for your response, that’s really good to hear. Think I’ll speak to our hospital & confirm. Just don’t want to sit doing nothing whilst we wait on our nxt FET with the nhs.

Lots of luck xx
